6/250 VS 6X47 lapua

Now that lapua has made 22-250 brass why wouldn't a guy build a 6/250 instead of a 6x47 lapua the cost of brass alone ($75 for 22-250 vs $115 for 6x47) would be a huge factor! the only thing is you get a small primer pocket with the 6X47.

the 6x47 lapua`s small rifle prime is said to be better for accuracy in the way the primer ignites the powder in the case.this is how it was explained to me anyway.

My friend built a 6-250 and was not happy with it. He sized up some Nosler brass. He had some problems with consistent necking up pulling or pushing the shoulder back creating head space problems. Part of the problem was created by trying to reuse brass and not having the correct dies but it just wasn't worth the effort. Also it does not have anywhere near the case capacity as a XC or 243 for shooting the heavies. Its a lot of work for very little gain. He shot his 6mmbr lights out came back from our PD trip and set the barrel back to 6mm-284. It was a 1.750" BAT Dual Port with a 1.750" straight 1-8" twist three groove Lilja barrel. Not sure about accuracy potential it wasn't shot enough. I'd go 6-47 or 6SLR the least amout of brass work the better. Build yourself a 6br before anything else. Cost of brass for all three of these is the reason I went the 243 AI route much cheaper brass and just enough case capacity.

Whats the life expectancy of that .243AI barrel? I actually own a cooper in 243AI but i shoot it sparingly. its not twisted enough for the heavies but it shoots 100 grain scirrocos into a tiny little hole! I would love to have a match rifle built in .243AI but don't want to replace the barrel every 800 rounds i am hoping to get 2000 out of my 6X47 lapua

I don't shoot matches but rather PD's. My first 243AI (Hart 1-9") lasted well past 2000+ rounds and still shot good enough to make kills from 600yds to 1000yds. It never shot excepionally well. I still have that barrel and might use it again. I built a BAT actioned, Shilen Barreled custom that shoots the 105 amaxes really well I hope it makes 1200rds. If I had to do it all over again I wish I would have known about the 6SLR. For PD ing the 243 Lapua is priced right next in line behind 223 and 308. The BR is really hard to beat in a 6mm platform. I might build a 6.5x47 next year for better bullet selection.
