Forming 6XC or 6x47 cases to 6/250

List: Im having problems with some of the bulk W-W 22-250 cases that I use in my 6/250. Im wondering if I could size either the 6XC or the 6x47 cases to 6/250 without alot of work as I thinkIve heard that either case is "stronger" in the weeb area of the case verse 22-250 cases.

Thanks,
Lester

I looked at both of those cases too for my 6-250. Being in Canada, no luck with the 6XC cases without permits but I could get the 6.5x47 cases in Lapua up here, problem is I think it would shorten up too much. It is already almost 2 mm short and after forming, blowing the shoulder and body out), who knows? The 6XC Norma is the right length out of most cases I looked at on the web,,looked at most of the x47 cases out there and this is the closest) at 1.918" it would match my chamber very nice, that is were my neck stops in the chamber via a Sinclair length gauge and 1.918" is 48.7172 mm.

If I could get the 6XC Norma, I would neck it up to .260 then run it into my sizing die to set the false shoulder, firing spring removed) and I think it would be a done deal, add primer, powder, and bullet. 6XC brass should work very nicely in your 6-250 IMO, but not the other way around, the 6-250 is a hair taller in the body.

How tight is your neck? Mine is .2715" best I can measure but I call it and think of it as a .272" NK :)

The 250 series is a strange one, changed more times over history than most, all in the base area, from .463 to .468 over the years if memory is right tonight, it is late. Anyways, 250 Savage brass works good too with less work than 308 brass, it is the parent case after all and you will get the false shoulder from it nicely.

It can be done, but isn't worth the hassle. You need to open the neck on 6xc brass to 6.5mms and then neck back down a portion of the neck to 6mm until the brass just chambers in your rifle. then you fireform. But running 6xc or 6.5x47 brass through a 6-250 dies is a pain. the area just below the shoulder on 6xc 0r 6.5x47 Lapua is quite a bit wider and trying to force ith through a 6-250 die takes a bit of pressure and will really work the brass. I never had a problem with Rem or WW brass in 6-250.

I tried to form 22-250 cases from 6XC cases and wrinkled the brass slightly and the 6XC cases "want" to be 6XC and not the smaller 22-250 cases. Even after the cases were fire formed I was still getting stuck cases with light loads. The best brass I've found is the Nosler, sometimes you can get seconds. I fire form them the same as my Dasher with a small false shoulder and then neck size, neck turn and ream the doughnut then necksize again, the gun,Remington 700)I'm shooting has a longer chamber than some and the Noslers are considerably smaller than the Winchester brass. I have some Nosler brass treated this way with at least ten reloads I only get two or three reloads from Remington and Winchester brass unless I false shoulder because the case stretches too much. The Nosler brass is also fully preped at the factory and sorted by weight.
