6x47 Lapua from 22-250

Has anyone experimented with forming 6x47 or 6.5x47 Lapua from 22-250 brass. Yes, I know that there will be a large primer pocket in the 22-250 brass.

Thanks,

Chris

I'm sure you can but why? All that work and the brass won't be as good as the Lapua. If you are after the large primer pocket, I think using 243 Lapua brass is a better option.

Just for kicks I gave it a try a while back using my 6BR body die and all I could accomplish is a bunch of collapsed shoulders. I think it is because on the .22-250 case the top end is narrower than the 6BR/6x47 Lapua and there isn't anything to support the top end of the case wall when ramming it up the 6BR body die. Perhaps there are others ways that are successful, but I see no easy way to do it.

The "mushrooming" results from reshaping the shoulder angle, and pushing it back). It happens with most forming methods for 6XC as well. A fireforming with a good, stiff load usually takes care of the wrinkle.

Larry Medler has a description for "mushroom free forming of 6XC cases" at http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jesse99/6XC_MushroomFreeCases.html . I suspect the same process will work for 6x47 cases as well.

I have made 6mm-22/250 A.I. from 308 and 243 brass and Again down to 6x47 A.I. Take about eight hours for a hundred pieces of brass Half an hour for 6X47 a.i. from 6.5x47 Randy

Because I have thousands of 22-250 brass and don't want to spend almost $70/100 on 6.5x47 Lapua brass

Based on the yield rate, labor and possible fire forming that are involved; I think you will be way ahead of the game by selling off the 22-250 brass then apply the $$$ towards the Lapua. This Lapua brass is so good they will out last any 22-250 brass today by a huge margin.

The same thing will happen if you try and form a new 243 win or rem case in a 6 br die. But if it is a fired case it works pretty good. Solution, 243 lapua into a 6br small body die, no mushroom!

Well a few months ago, on a similar topic we had what was bordering on a disagreement. Just watch the photo.

It's not only feasible but it's easy.
