So just how tight does the average unlimited br50 gun shoot in decent conditions with your best setup and ammo? Not really looking for one “wallet” group but more like a few groups as an average. Thanks for looking.
The best bench rifles can shoot 1/2 inch at 50 yards. On occasion some do much better, but that is the exception not the rule.So just how tight does the average unlimited br50 gun shoot in decent conditions with your best setup and ammo? Don't know you, but I do know Tony. He probably knows what he is talking about. An Unlimited rifle shooting 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards is going to score very poorly on a ARA target where all rounds need to be inside of a 1/2 inch without breaking the line to the outside. with a .223 dia bullet groups need to be under 5/16" to stay in.
Pretty sure this is what TKH was thinking, 1/2" OTO.Ammo testing facilities measure ten shot groups outside-to-outside. At 50 yards ten shot groups that are consistently half-an-inch (12.7mm) oto should be quite good with most rifles.
Thanks John, you are exactly right.Pretty sure this is what TKH was thinking, 1/2" OTO.
Thanks for posting. I know very little about 22 Rimfire. The Vudoo I purchased recently is my first quality Rimfire. I found a setting where I was getting 10 shot groups better than 1/2 inch at 50 yards. From what you are saying, my results are about as good as it gets? The best bench rifles can shoot 1/2 inch at 50 yards. On occasion some do much better, but that is the exception not the rule.

Take a bunch of small dots, just a little larger than the periods in this text, and if you can hit them 8 out of 10 you are good to go.Thanks for posting. I know very little about 22 Rimfire. You might say it's "cutting edge".My “bench” was unique.

Not any BR match I've shot or scored in 40 years? In BR shooting, groups are measured OTO. Like the Eley analyzer did years back. The CTC method you would have to be at .250 JMHO
Not many serious BR matches are shot for groups, at least in recent decades. Most serious BR matches are shot for score. ARA, USBR, PSL, IR 50-50, IBS are all score. Not any BR match I've shot or scored in 40 years?
Always center to center
Sorry you are wrong.group matches still shot frequently and are "serious" BR matches. Some disaplines are score only I understand. Not many serious BR matches are shot for groups, at least in recent decades. Most serious BR matches are shot for score. ARA, USBR, PSL, IR 50-50, IBS are all score.
Point taken; I apologize to all the group shooters that shoot for score. Let me rephrase that. A serious RFBR shooter like ARA, IR ..., (looking for a good lot of ammo or find a tune), would measure groups OTO. To me, a CTC measurement would be useless, when trying to select ammo or find a tune. If you're not hitting the dot you're not doing very well. Again JMHONot any BR match I've shot or scored in 40 years?

Center to center gives no advantage to caliber size is why it is used in BR group matches .Point taken; I apologize to all the group shooters that shoot for score. Let me rephrase that.
