45 colt, in a lever action. Useful?

Damn, you guys talking up the 45 Colt lever got me wanting one.

Hahaha

JM stamped Marlins brought top bucks years back

Now that Ruger is building them…old JM stamped prices are down

If fin you’re looking…stay away from the RemLins built by Remington 2010-2015 ish

Marlin in the prime years were built by craftsman that cared

Cross bolt safety started around 1983. Pre safety commanded top bucks

Still have a few ole Marlins…357…44 mag…45 Colt and of course M39 in 22 LR

Pic…2007 Marlin 45 Colt…round barrel…octagon barrels were more common in the Cowboy series

Scope is the classic 1-3x20 Weaver

I built a custom 45 colt revolver on a Smith & Wesson N frame years ago. ( I built the Cylinder).

Using WW cases, I shot the same pressures as you find in any magnum revolver. There is nothing “weak” about modern 45 Colt cases. My best load was 15.5 grns of Blue Dot behind the Sierra 225 grn hollow point at close to 1300 fps.image.jpgimage.jpg

Factories simply will not load a 45 Colt to it’s full potential for one reason, the fear some one would fire it in an old antiquated firearm.

If you remember, when Casul first introduced his 45 Casul with his “triplex” load, he actually used WW 45 Colt cases.

If it's built to handle modern pressures, a 45 Colt can be loaded up to effectiveness.

Personally, I'd just go with a 44Mag. I've got lots of experience and they are a proven deer killer.

Sound advice until you walk into the local gun shop and see a neat rifle. All stainless with a 24” octagonal barrel. Think I paid $600 for it. I took it home and started researching. Rossi doesn’t have a stellar reputation but this one is put together well. Nice fit and finish. A slight feeding problem was solved with a longer COL.IMG_1354.jpeg
