.416 Remington, Rigby or Ruger?

I can't imagine going on a African hunt or big bears with a Barrett. Cool cartridge, but I don't think it would fit in a walkaround hunting rifle platform very well.
Not the Actual Barrett rifle. Was more thinking the cartridge in a hunting rifle platform. Ya lugging a big Barrett rifle around wouldn't be real practical.

Hard to beat the nostalgic factor of the Rigby, the 416 Rem in a pre 64 is a nice handling package, you can load up the Rigby to much more velocity but comes at price, lots of recoil

Friend of mine PH'd all over Africa, American client once took his Barret with for a LR buffalo.
Friend said his never seen anything hit a buffalo like that 750gr Amax

Friend built one and uses it on Elk hunts. Same 750 Amax. Surprisingly, other than the muzzle blast and cost of shooting it, doesn't really do anything more than his 300NM. Sure hits harder but does not damage the meat any worse. He said it looks like a muzzleloader bullet hole. Exits aren't real bad either. For a 50 BMG round, an Elk isn't much resistance. A buffalo isn't either. I think the cartridge is better served for Elephant or Rhino. Does a hell of a job on vehicles and buildings.

Out of the 3 I've owned one rifle chambered in 416 Rigby. It's such a classic cartridge and it doesn't beat you up. Ammo is pretty common worldwide. It can do it all. Go with the Rigby.

Trust me, I'd love to find a CZ in Rigby but they seem non-existent. I'm a Winchester guy at heart so this will work, when it comes in. Maybe if I find another magnum pre-64, I'll build a Rigby too.

You might find the M70 a tion a little small for the Rigby. A CZ, Brevex, Wby mark v, or custom would give you a better fit. Big $$ all of them.

The stars aligned on this one! Stopped at my LGS yesterday to pick up some guns I had ordered for my local SCI event. On the end of the counter was sitting two CZ boxes. I wandered over and was told they were being put on the internet as consignment guns. One was a 550 in .375 H&H and the other was a 550 with fancy wood in .416 Rigby. Both were new and unfired! I made an offer and got them both, although I think I'll pass the .375 to my chapter. Woo-hooo!

Dang Tom. That looks like something i need to see in person. Why don't you bring it to the next F-Class match and let me look at it. Joel

Look at it, hell! Shoot it in the match and learn what shooting a big rifle is all about!:D;)

Guaranteed to wake up the whole line!
