Recently bought a nice 40XBR in .222 and looking for load suggestions to start with. I have some IMR4198 and BLC(2). Bullets range from 50gr vmax to 52gr SMK.

always wanted an xbr. But my 788 always loved 20.5grs imr4198 and a 50gr sp. forever. Other will chime in im sure. It wld probably shoot just about any combo well.

I'll echo that @Jrjones . I have 3 .222 Remingtons and they each do well with 20.5 gr IMR4198 and a 50 gr bullet. 19.8 gr IMR4198 and a 52 gr ELD-M is also good. They don't like 55 gr bullets at all.

H4895 made my Rem 722 in .222 come alive with a quality 50 or 52 gr match bullet. Fun stuff!

Let us know how it goes. The .222 is a favorite of mine. It's easy to see why decades ago it was the darling of the benchrest crowd. Although unseated by the 6 PPC, the .222 is still a great cartridge.

Love the 222. Only XBR I have is this swift.
Looking at changing out the scope to a 8.5-25. I’m starting to prefer side parallax adjustment.

The classic load for the 222 was 22.2 gr of H322 with a 52 grain bullet according to what a Remington factory guy told me and I believe that is what they used in the target they would send with a 40X.

Sounds like a great recipe. If you look closely at 1911s post with the Leupold you will see that 22.2 of N133 is pretty great too. I'm glad I still have some of both powders left to try this weekend if the weather cooperates. I think I can hear my 222 calling me right now as I'm typing this

Have you found H322 better than IMR4198 or VV133?

Had the 40xb 222 mag out the other day,the 222 needs a turn. The magnum is a bit long in the tooth but will certainly ruin a groundhogs day. I sure do enjoy the old classic beauty of a vintage varminter, shooting them is a nice brake from pursuing every last ounce of accuracy from my comp guns. The 222 family of cartridges just seem easy and natural to shoot well.

Puts them in one hole out of a Rem 788
