222 40xbr

I have a rem 40xbr 222 that I would like to have a switch barrel and use the action on another wildcat for longer distances what are some suggestions and what do you guys have thanks . Also looking for scope options sold most of my 1" scopes looking to replace target and long range

THAT 222 IS ONE OF THE BEST RDS THEY EVER MADE BUT AS FAR AS A SWITCH BARREL RIG IF YOU USE THIS BOLT YOU HAVE TO STAY WITH A .378 CASE HEAD LIKE 223 ACKLEY 223 204 ETC

I have built three switch barrel rifles, while it seems like a great idea on the surface they turned out to be more work than I cared for and ended up selling them.

I did have a couple that were set up so that I could use either a 223 size or 308 size bolt face and they do work. Depending on how they are set up you still have to generally remove the scope, sometimes remove the action from the stock, remount the scope and then verify zero afterwards. More time consuming and trouble than I wanted to put up with, I ended up just buying another rifle in the other caliber I wanted. At the price of barrels and gunsmithing these days you can buy a new rifle for about the same price as a rebarrel job, so that is what I ended up doing.

I know that some will argue that there are various action wrenchs, etc available that can work around some of these issues but most of the problems still remain.

Yes I thought that might be the problem . not really sure what I would get . I'm a Remington man but have been looking at the 6.5 creedmore my buddies are all going to them. Any thoughts on these or should I ask in another place thanks

Do you reload? 6.5 Creed is good if you don't reload, lots of good factory ammo choices...if you reload...loads of good and "different" stuff out there...

I agree with above thinking though on a switch barrel...once you get a barrel shooting good with a certain load or loads, you're probably gonna not want to pull it apart...at least I don't and have just built a different rifle in the caliber I was after.

Recently, I have been really happy with Sightron scopes...have three...one from 2004 and two new 8-32x's. Great glass for the money in my opinion.
