40X stock question

I know this answer, but would like an opinion. To remove the bolt on 40X with a 40X older style stock with the bolt groove was it always necessary to remove the action from the stock to remove the bolt for barrel cleaning. Was this a pain in the a** or not.

So,tell us your answer-

IF, you're removing the action from the stock to remove the bolt-
you missed pushing the bolt stop down aft of the LH lug while drawing the bolt body out of the action in one fluid motion.

I am familiar with the bolt stop. My question is how is the bolt removed when the comb of the old style wooden stock with the groove for the bolt "stops" the bolt from exiting the receivern or it does on the stock that I have. This is my first experience with a 40 x stock. Any opions or comments are appreciated

The comb is typical og all the older stocks. Was this typical or is there a secret to removing the bolt while it is stocked. Anyone out there with a 40x stock experience

It is not necessary to remove the action from the stock to facilitate bolt removal on any of my 40x rifles. Is it possible the rifle was bedded incorrectly causing interference?

For my match rifles I need to remove the cheekpiece from the stock, not the action from the stock. I am assuming you have an adjustable cheek piece. There are turn-screw adjustable cheek pieces that use rare earth magnets to hold the cheek piece in place to make removing the cheek piece easier for cleaning. Hardware for same is available from Warner Tool. It is not a difficult job to cut and inlet the hardware if one takes ones time.

This stock is late 1960 no comb just the older style stock. I am using a corrent sa 700 action that fits like a glove but for the bolt removal issue. Not sure why I have this problem. I am going elongate the slot in the comb enough to correct it. Thank you for everyones comments

Looks like you have a 40X stock that came off a rimfire (same size action, but the locking lugs are on the rear of the bolt). I had the same problem, Set stock up in the mill and extend the
slot about 3/4 of a inch. Problem solved.
