3dprinting a co-axial bench rest...

All done! now I just need to persuade you to make an F-Open plate for the top :)

Not much to update other than I've shot 50 rounds of 338LM off the orginal now.
It sits down under cover on my shooting table and seems to be holding together.
The ARCA clamp doesn't like to stay tight, I feel like its attachment screws need to be the longer pattern. A solution is in the works.
Added 2in stick-on rubber pads (from amazon) but it still likes to move the whole rig under recoil. But this 338LM uses all of my recoil stock travel and the rest is running out of recoil travel as well.
A bag rest is on my todo list, just been wrapped up in summer time construction.

I'd definitely say the rod needs to extend thru the weight all the way. Or don't leave it in the hot ish sun for months.
Now that I've sorted thru some gun gremlins that printed bag is climbing the list.

Here's a question for those watching-
If I was to do a bag holder, which bag (or bags?) insert fits the "bang for the buck" theme>?
I've been working on some DIY bag inserts but its pretty easy to tie more in materials up than a premade unit costs without adding much value.

Are the cad file(s) compatible with SolidWorks?

Step (.stp) and Iges (.igs) should be importable. The DWG should be as well but I have not attempted. Its a 3D DWG with solids so maybe not. I use Inventor, SW allows direct import with preserving the part structure. That could be the best option.
Step would be my pick of the current files.

Need to add the latest bag files , I made support parts in the parts and the interface parts where too much surface area. Had to grab supports with pliers and pray.
Need some surface serrations to help separation. But it all fit really well.
Has lots of adjustment for targets uphill or downhill.
This bag is 2.5 x 5.4? Ish foot print, IDK if its common/popular.
The only bag rider rifle I has around growing up was my father's McMillan 50cal bench rest. I just remember the huge mechanical rests (front and rear), it was the late 90s early 2000s , he would go to the Reno fcsa.org shoots with Skip Talbot (RIP). The heavy gun was 50ish lbs , still shooting the "light" gun (30lb). It would be a serious test for this rest.

Does anyone here have recommendations for an online class that could teach an ignoramous how to operate a free cad program. I have limited computer skills and have tried to download programs and use the tutorials but always give up because I just spend to much time without any real progress. Any suggestions.

i remember messing with some early downloadable cad programs, royal pia, and i am not computer illiterate. never did pursue it further, to many other things to accomplish in my limited time available so i am still pushing pencils and twirling compasses which is enough for what i do. The programs do make proof of concept easy though vs mocking something up one way or another.
