I do not know what a .358 Hoosier is but if it is like a .358 S.T.A. (I had one) I might be able to help..

My buddy has a 358 Indiana. It is a WSM case shortened and necked down to comply with the Indiana law. He uses a Nosler Accubond and shot it at 100 yards last week. It shot 3 shots in the same hole. I was impressed with it. I could ask him what he is using for powder. I will see him Saturday. Matt

What are Indiana deer firearm laws? Stupid.
"Pistol" cartridge in a rifle: .358+ caliber, minimum 1.16", maximum 1.8" case length
"Rifle" cartridge in a pistol: .243+ caliber, other than that anything goes.

I was expecting them to change the laws to allow normal centerfire rifles, so I built a 25-45 Sharps upper. They did not change the laws, so I built a pistol lower. I'm putting my 18" 25-45 barrel on it for a legal "pistol"...

New Winchester 308 Win brass resized to 358 Hoosier and trimmed to specified legal length. The die is a 358 Winchester machined to the proper length for the Hoosier.

It hammers Indiana deer.

I have the .358 Hoosier, shoot 200gr. bullets at 2,100fps. You can go to 2,500 easily but I don't like the recoil at that speed. I selected a short action Savage with an aftermarket barrel. Gun weighs 5-6 lb. Look to 35 Remington loads for a place to start.

With a Google search I found barrel, load data, etc.

I cant speak for the hoosier. I do own a couple wssm's. i find 10x a little quick. I like 3031 with 180-200 grain bullets.tac and 8208 work well with 200 gr bullets. For the 225 accubonds,i can get 2550 fps with varget and nice round primer edges. My fired cases hold 58 gr h2o filled to case mouth and my rifles have alot of freebore. Look for 358 win load data. Its a good start.

Just built a 358 - 6.5x55AI, just the swede improved case necked up. Only shot a few fire forming loads but so far so good. Shooting 200 ftx's for now as pretty thin and small game will be first up for it. Stevens long action and stock, 21 inch aussie made MAB barrel I believe. Hoping to get the 200's around 2700+

indiana,gota love there laws and rules shoot anything in contender handgun.but can not use 30-30 or 444marlin or other brush guns ? steve
