.350 Legend

I just got this Winchester and am very pleased. The accuracy right out of the box is excellent, in less than ideal bench conditions. Four groups starting at 1.79 down to .99 Inches at 100 yards, with factory ammo.

I have really been looking at the 350 Legend for Ohio whitetail. I already have a 45-70 but would like something with a little less kick. The 350 seems to be a great option and I have heard good things about it.
Plus, reloading options are becoming more and more available.

I am quite sure a better shooter than me could easily get this gun to consistent 1/2 inch groups with a better shooting rest (I just had a sandbag), and some quality handloads.

Looking at all the options in bolt 350 Legends, I would love a Winchester. However, they do not come with threaded barrels. With me running suppressors, it kinda a must. Hate the idea of spending $700 to $800 for a rifle just to turn around and spend another $75 to $120 to thread the barrel. That leaves me with a Ruger American or a CVA. Neither are bad options, but would rather have the Winchester.

I bought a cheap Ruger American in 350 Legend. It shoots similar to yours with 200g-250g cast bullets.
I didn't want to like the cartridge initially but in the end I do like the rimless 357 Maximum!

Last fall my buddy killed a couple whitetails. Both recovered but zero blood trails. One shot thru lungs the other shoulder hit. Bullet performance was poor on the shoulder shot. The other passed thru. One went 90 yards, the other 200. Both dead when recovered. Just tough tracking with no blood. Not sure which bullet he used.

In this video with a 350 there is a slow motion where you can see the blood flowing pretty strong.
Obviously not all scenarios duplicate each other's. My buddy needs to find tune his set up. Best bullet for the ranges he shoots. We all know of opposite experiences with bullets in all cartridges. I watched Gabe and his kid shoot several deer with the 350L. He's using prototype bullets not sold to the public yet. It's a good round for deer with like anything, limitations.

Nice rifle, we took 3 deer with the 350L and the Hornady 170gr SP all doe's none went more than 10 steps also none were more than 50 yard shots.

A guy moved into my public hunting area that uses a .350 legend...he's pretty much ruined my spot! He's wounded a half dozen bucks and not recovered one!
I use a 35 grant (300wsm wildcat) and all one shot DRT kills.

In my opinion it doesn't have enough ass to get the job done without perfect shot placement! Despite what the gun sellers/ writers say.

It's not what the writers or sellers are saying. The ballistics says it all. It's capable of killing effectively but the person pulling the trigger is most of the problem. Lots of guys successfully doing it. There's bad experiences with every cartridge on the planet. Sometimes it's the bullet or shot placement. Other times it's the user. Many variables.

Agree it's the Indian and not the arrow but here in SE PA shotgun/ML now straight cartridge units, have not heard anything good about this cartridge. Disclaimer: been using an SML for the last fifteen years and have never lost a whitetail.

I think Some of the lighter bullets being loaded in the 350 factory ammo could be a problem.
I've used a 357 Max for years with no issues. 185 XTPs killed fast but I switched to Sierra 200g round nose and they bust through opposite shoulder blades better.
I’ve got them moving near 2300 fps and can touch holes at 100yds.
The guy who is shooting all the deer in someone’s private, public hunting area must be a gut shooter, I’ve never seen one lost to a double lung shot, I doubt I ever will either.
If someone shoots one in the a$$ with a 7mm mag and looses it, it doesn’t mean 7mm is a bad round for deer.

It's definitely the shooter in many cases and in many other cases the bullet.

Hey Guys,

I would like to hear more about reloading for the 350L.

I find it hilarious that people say it doesn't kill deer very well. Granted, it is not the best round out there.

I just bought the Winchester XPR with a 24" barrel. I have purchased some 140 grain Bear Creek bullets and some 150 grain Lehigh " Controlled Chaos" bullets. I am starting with VV N110 and have established my COAL. I plan to test multiple loads and see what this cartridge is capable of.... My goal is to get to 2650-2675 fps with sub MOA groups.
I am hoping the wind will slow down and the temp will get closer to 32 before I set up the Labradar. Have any of you guys tried a slightly slower powder?

Also, are any of you using a swaging die to resize the .357 - .358 bullets?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

A few shooters here have bought Rugers in 350 Legend. Given no Australian state has any rules about straight wall cartridges and we can hunt with whatever calibre we want I can't understand why anyone here would buy a 350 Legend over something like a .308 Win? I think some Aussies watch YouTube too much and see the latest American trend without perhaps understanding the reason behind it (eg state game rules requiring straight walled cartridges) and then go out any buy something not best suited to their needs. Same thing happened when the 300 Blackout became popular over there. Aussies bought them despite the fact we can't have semi auto rifles or suppressors.

Ohio guy here. It’s a good cartridge for states where it is required and if you keep the shots within 150 yards. I rebarreled a safe queen custom AR. In that platform, running a can, it has very little recoil. I’m shooting 170 grain Barnes. A lot of guys are shooting 150 grain Makers. It’ll do the job if the shooter does theirs.
