.350 Legend

Hey Guys,

I would like to hear more about reloading for the 350L.

I find it hilarious that people say it doesn't kill deer very well. Granted, it is not the best round out there.

I just bought the Winchester XPR with a 24" barrel. I have purchased some 140 grain Bear Creek bullets and some 150 grain Lehigh " Controlled Chaos" bullets. I am starting with VV N110 and have established my COAL. I plan to test multiple loads and see what this cartridge is capable of.... My goal is to get to 2650-2675 fps with sub MOA groups.
I am hoping the wind will slow down and the temp will get closer to 32 before I set up the Labradar. Have any of you guys tried a slightly slower powder?

Also, are any of you using a swaging die to resize the .357 - .358 bullets?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

I shoot 99.9% cast in mine all sized to .358. I have two bullets that work well, 127gr truncated cone plain base 9mm bullet and a 200gr gas checked base. Lee 358-200 mold. I powder coat all my cast bullets. For the lighter bullet I used Be-86 and IMR 4227 for the heavy one. I’ve tried other .357 cast bullets but it sucks trying to chamber semi wadcutters and I quit using them really fast.

I bought it, CVA Cascade, just to shoot cast. I have a box of 165gr jacketed something’s for it with the intention to hunt deer with them but would probably end up using the 200gr cast.

Yes, I've swaged several of the .358 options including a box of barnes 180 ttsx down to .355 and shot them in my Ruger Ranch. This was more than several years ago in the infancy of the 350L so hunting bullet selection was limited. They shot well and killed deer. But...

The trouble with swaging down jacketed or solids is that they are intended for higher impact velocities from cartridges like 35whelen and 358win which can push these bullets 500fps faster. They are tough bullets and the 350L barely pushes them fast enough. Expansion in the ttsx was minimal but present. Speer hot cor 180gr expansion was laughable. I suspect the speer 180 is what federal loads in their blue box ammo.

If you're swaging hard lead cast bullets I think you'll have great success.

I picked up some of the Hornady 140 FTX (.357 ) which have a thinner jacket for pistol velocities.

I look forward to testing these.
