30br berger 115 VV N130 loads

I wonder if any of you have some load experience with the berger 115 gr FB and VV N130.
I shoot 100 yards and need a good load for the gun.

Thought you might have slipped up with the VLD, all good and fixed now 115gr Flat Base.

I can't really help you with the VV 130 powder as it's not available where I am and any VV Powder I believe is no longer being imported. VV N130 is a single base powder like the ADI AR2207 (H4198) that I use and a similiar burn rate.

I have 2 30BR Target Rifles, each a little different and each likes a slightly different load to achieve their best accuracy. The custom Remington 700 I have is using a Kreiger 17 1/4" Twist x 26 1/2" #18 Light Varmint Fluted and it likes 32.2gr AR2207 (H4198) but my Stolle Grizzly Pacnor 18" twist x 24" Heavy Varmint NBRSA likes 32.0gr AR2207 and achieves a similiar velocity. Both rifles using 115gr FB Berger soft seated with a 0.010" jam into the lands.

I started load development at 31.8gr and went in 0.1gr increments up to 32.8gr and found two pretty accurate nodes, one down low and the other up high. I picked the low node and then fiddled with bushings to adjust neck tension. Federal 205M Primers. It was suggested to me that 31.0 to 34.0gr was the test range but I don't like going too hot so never went past 33.0gr.

I have done some loads in the range of 34 to 35.3 gr but never go lower then 33.5
But it is maby interesting to go far lower then the load i already use!
Do you have some crono speeds from your loads?
Mine are about 3050 fps.

From Randy Robinett " Most 30BR rigs display a 'sweet spot' between 2950 fps to just under 3000 fps, then again at about 3050 fps" He was using 118gr Bullets. My chambers are using a "Robinett Reamer" so my aim was to be in that area of velocity, which it is with both my rifles. They are at either side of 2800 fps, the longer barrel being the highest velocity.

Maybe things have changed over the years but it's somewhere to progress from slowly.

I still have more very fine tuning to do but time is the factor when I'm competing in much longer range competitions.

I use N130 in my 30BR, but drop powder with a Brunos Measure, so cannot give you a measurement in grains at the moment. That said, the 30 BR has a WIDE tuning range, and will let you know pretty quickly when you are out of the node with N130. Next time I load, I will drop a few and see what they weigh, but if you are in a hurry, filling to the neck/shoulder junction is a good starting place.

I thought I'd address a couple more aspects of your load question. I use H4198 in my 30BR, not 130, but I suspect the powders behave similarly, so you may want to try this.

In my experience the 30BR shoots best with high neck tension. I use a .325" bushing and my loaded round diameter is about .328".

Also, I've found the cartridge shoots best with the bullet jammed hard in the lands.

Finally, I've found that once I find a powder charge that works well, experimenting with bullet seating depth yields greater returns than small changes in powder charges.

Rigo, sorry for the delay...

one of my rifles likes 35.7gr of the N130, while another likes 36.1

many 30BR shooters that I know all run between 35.5-35.8gr with good results

brshtr is right, the 30BR likes high neck tension, I too run a .325 bushing, and final tuning with seating depth can yield excellent results
