Stacy, with rifle butt on the ground, pushing down on the barrel, I use the same bolt torque starting with the bottom screw @ 35, then 20 on the top 1 or 2.

I am not clear on your comment, 40 on the front screw, and 20 on the rear screw.

Dennis

But when you can shoot 1/2” with one rifle then shoot 1.25” with another i wouldnt blame the setup or the operator near as much
Have a dozen folks shoot two 5-shot groups with a 308 win match rifle from a bench at 100 yards. The ammo has been tested to 3/8 inch extreme spread.

Been there. Done that. 4X spread in average group sizes. Some of us cannot fire a rifle without disturbing its point of aim.

I was just giving an example. So if i can shoot 1/8” groups over and over then grab another rifle and it will only do 1.5” at best then its not my setup. Most on here regularly shoot groups smaller than 3/8”

Tried backing the powder down and getting better results! Thank you guys. I may still tweak a little bit. But for hunting it’s fine.

Do your self a favor,,, make up some ladder loads to test things out.

I'm shooting a light weight 308 using Hornady 178gr ELD-X and Varget.

10% off the top for starting point.

10 boolitz at 40.5gr,,, next ten at 41gr and so on up to the point I see presser sighs on the primer and the base of the Case Web,,, take your calipers to the range as you'll see the web numbers expanding,,, If you want to keep your brass in good shape over the long hual,,, tap the charge back .5 of a grain to extend case life.

Shoot all Seven to Nine 10 shoot groups at 400 to 500 meters on the stillest/ calmest day when your in your best shooting form,,, The tightest vertical group showing signs of a super tight Horizontal water line is the most likely the load you might want to work with.

I use them for my hunting loads since I don't have time to fiddle fart around when it comes to hunting loads for my hunter class 308 Remmy,,, If I can tag the 7'' gong consecutively at 600 meters,,, that's good enough.

If I choose to push those limits past that range,,, I use my F class rig and the dialed in boolitz then,,, there is no second guessing when it comes to having gun and boolitz dialed in for long range stuff.

The old timer said,,, 3/4" to 1" is plenty good enough for most hunting applications,,, or a minute of Moose works too. Ha
