Good thing you ignored MGYSGT info hahaI’ve recently discovered the 169smk specifically designed to make it to 1000yds and I’m currently selling all my other .30 cal bullets……..that’s how well it shoots.
Yes I have many boxes of those “myths” on my bench right now, I’ve shot them at 100,200,500,600, I haven’t made it to the only 1000 yd range in my state yet because of weather but will soon……Good thing you ignored MGYSGT info haha
My rifle just doesn't like them.. well, doesn't like the newer ones.. I had some FGMM 175SMK from 2016 that shot real well. The new box of FGMM and the box of 500 bullets I got (both 175smks) both have a base to ogive about .020" longer than the old ones, and my gun will have none of that.. Tried seating them back further so far to no avail. Shot the last of my 2016 FGMM box the same day as some new FGMM and some reloads. Old FGMM shot .3 moa, the other stuff was around 1.2 moa. Hence the reason for this post. I'm probably a .25 moa shooter or bigger I'd guess. Never shot a rifle and ammo that would show me where I am.The 175 SMK may have been developed specifically for and in Remington M-24’s. Of course a good bullet doesn't lose that characteristic, but these are one hole bullets through a heavy 700..
Are the replies here centered around jcc's question?Besides the 175SMK, what are the best bullets for banging steel at 1000yds with a 22" 1-10 twist .308 Win?

22" barrel, 1-10 twist, .308?
DVid, the 155 Scenar works beautifully in that scenario at 2620 in mild conditions. Those unique limitations came to my attention in the last couple of months talking to a couple of prior state champions in LR service rifle.
Specifically, if one wants to shoot the M1A at 1,000 yards, that’s the barrel length before the flash suppressor, and before the tube’s end, some gas pressure is bled off.
Those confines are very real, the cartridge should be depressible into a standard magazine and TR-like pressures would tear up a very expensive gun and possibly disable the operating rod.
They recommended this bullet and the Berger 185. I wondered myself, and still do, why the Lapua 155 scenar would not be about ideal for the job.
As a lighter bullet, it probably needs less barrel length to achieve it’s needed velocity than a heavier bullet, although the scenar line does tend toward a long bearing surface for its weight, mirroring the pressure of starting a heavier bullet. But they are comfortably over supersonic at sea level at 1,000 yards.
Try the BERGER 185 JUGGERNAUT if this is a bolt action rifle. 175 OTM if its an M1A.Besides the 175SMK, what are the best bullets for banging steel at 1000yds with a 22" 1-10 twist .308 Win?
