308 advice needed

Shouldered barrels are easier than dealing with barrel nuts, for sure.

Bat Machine, Defiance, Zermatt, Kelbly, Borden and others hold tolerances that enable very quick and repeatable barrel changes. Your Ruckus action is on that list. I swap barrels all the time, and it doesn't take long at all. Many have made the point that Savage/Remage changes take longer. That's true - they take about twice as long to change vs. a custom action.

I've done range switches between short- and long-range 6BR barrels. Not that big a deal with a shouldered barrel. I don't use massive torque when mounting though.

Not sure I'd do switches with nutted barrels though; headspace is too fiddly.

Agreed, not much torque needed at all to screw on a barrel
A good snug Hand tight is even good enough, I've done it, playing around with switching barrels
One guy on you tube, did a 1 Mile shot, cold bore....... first round hit

Most of my barrels when I am satisfied with chambering and fitting
Get torqued snug, thats it. When everything is mated well, matched threads and surfaces flat.......
.......I have never had one come loose.
This is for target rifles, Now a field use - hunting rig I would torque tighter though just for assurance.

I'm certain some people may argue with me here, but you must first test light recoiling rifles with a hand tight barrel.......before arguing this fact.

That would be called a .260 Remington
(AWESOME Cartridge!!!) Way better than a standard .308 in my opinion
Flatter, faster, very accurate
Can fit in a S/A with the heavies if you have a short .060" freebore
The 260 Ai is better yet (from what I've seen, wish I did a 260 AI reamer when I first got into the 260 Rem.
a straight .260 is good enough though
tight groups at 600 yds with it are very easy

if you build one be sure to call out a 1-1/2 degree leade angle.
The factory .260 calls out a 3 degree, which isn't exactly the best for VLD's.
Times have changed from its original inception and advancements made from the old style of bullets.

Thank you all, after reading and contemplating your answers.... I am just going to build a new 308 rifle. I have gone done the road of buying a used rifle, then replacing everything except the action, it is easier for me to just start collecting parts and , or, call my gunsmith and send him a check and wait... and wait....and wait for the parts to arrive.

There’s a lot of enjoyment in piecing parts for a new build.
