300 Winchester Magnum

Good feedback, I was consdering them. Currently using 175 and 185 Berger hunting vld with good results.

I’d been using the 215 Berger Hybrid with great success, tried the 212’s purely out of curiosity. I went right back to the 215 Berger. Love the 215’s, never had anything but spectacular results with them on game.

Been using 215 and 230 Hybrids for a while now on game. They are both excellent bullets

If your shooting a 300 wm sendero I think you will have good luck. The r-26 load with 215 hybrids that I am getting 3035 with is a sendero as well. I am 5 thou off the lands with them. I didn't do a ton of seating depth checks. It shoots a .5moa for me at that speed so I called it good until the factory barrel is shot out for me.
How many grains worth of RL 26 do you use for that load?

How are the Berger 210's and 215's in a 1in 10 twist barrel? I have never used anything over the 190'sand 195's and was just curious as to how the Hybrids and compare to the hunting bullets on game? RW

They work just fine out of 10” twist barrels. My previous Barrel was a 10” and I never had any issues. I put a 9” twist on when I replaced it, but the 10” worked and shot just fine.

now just to find rl26 the don't carry it at LGS were I work, they are going to try and order some for me! I don't know how long it will take to get it! I used to shoot a lot of rl25 and it was really accurate but right the line of over pressure, had watch temp!! I hope rl26 has the best of both worlds! I really got very high velocity and good speed but had to watch for over pressure but it would shoot the best right at the line

I’ve had great luck with H1000, I can get a 215 Hybrid to 3,000fps out of my 28” tube no problem. The temp stability of H1000 is awesome as well.

I second the reloader 26. With 215 bergers I was able to get up to 3035 with reloader 26 compared to 2940ish with h1000 with equal accuracy. Also have found in my area r-26 is easier to get your hands on then h-1000. I'm able to seat these bullets out along ways and have a oal length of 3.710 to get these velocities out of a 26in barrel. Also was able to work up a load for my uncles 24" sporter barrel with 210 vlds which got me 2980 for velocity with r-26 and with h1000 was getting 2900 Oal length of 3.5ish for that rifle. Not as much data on the r-26 but in my opinion it is a really good powder for the 300 wm and the heavy bullets. Have some 200 and 212 eldx to try in the next month as well
I just purchased a box of 215 hybrids and will try them RL 26, how many grains of 26 are you pushing?

I'm reading that alot of folks are using the 215 hybrids for hunting. I'm planning to do the same for an obvious long range option. I will likely use 165s or 180s accubonds out of my sporterized 1903a3 30-06 for close range/woods hunting.

I have a custom 300 Winchester Magnum and I am considering using Hornady 200 gr ELD-X bullets with H1000 for powder,
CCI 250 magnum primers. Has anyone tried the ELD-X bullets yet? This is a big game rifle.
Thanks

What is your target game animal ? What is your range to the target ? Both those questions can dictate two different bullets. If your in the 200 weight class, I think the 212 ELD-X is probably the best of all the 200 class bullets for the 300 mag that Hornady offers. I read a previous thread where that bullet did poorly on two cows. One experience won't make up my mind on bullet choice. Berger is hard to beat as well. I like the 3000 fps muzzle number with a 212/215 grain bullet for larger elk sized game. With the 212 bullets much higher BC number than the other ELD-X offerings, it's the best choice given range could be extended. I've seen that 212 bullet used in the little 308 perform very well on big animals but at closer ranges. If the ELD-X is your bullet of choice, the 212 gets my vote. Just my .02. Good luck.
Another thing I heard and keep hearing is the RL26. I think those that recommended that powder are on to something. Run it under those 212s and post your results.

Here’s a few pics of the cows we shot with the 212 ELD’s, both were in the 300-400 Yard range.

I know the 210VLD and the 215 Hybrid will punch thru elks shoulders, I like to put them in the crease tho. I’ve taken/watched game taken from 150-1,034 Yards with them and had great results. Seems like caliber sized entrance, soup for lungs/heart, followed normally by a golf ball sized exit is the norm with the 215’s. My buddy did recover one 215 Berger from mule deer buck this year quartering away hard at 275 Yards, I’ve attached the pic of that bullet. I’ve also got a recovered 210VLD from a black bear at 150 Yards, punched through both front shoulders, I’ll try to get pics of it as well. I put a pic and video link of what I’ve come to expect from the 215 Berger’s as well, the doe ran about 60 Yards I don’t know how with her heart detached (antelope i shot last year at 545 Yards). Lots of good Bullets out there though, accubonds, TSX, interloks, partitions, a-frames, interbonds.....I’ve personally come to rely on the 215 Berger’s as my go to, suits my needs well. Take what you want from my experience, hope it helps!

I shot my doe tgis year with the ELD-X. It was a close shot, maybe 50 yards, rifle is a 308, bullet speed 2625, and bullet was a 178 eld x. Complete jacket separation. The deer was DRT but the bullet didnt exit and the core was found against off side hide. Jacket was found in the chest cavity. Penitration was adequate. I dont think i would load them in a faster rifle than mine. I know your asking about 300wm and im taking 308 but i dont know if I'll use em again. Maybe the heavies hold up better. I'll stick to accubonds.

Yeah I'm reading alot of good about the berger bullets and alot of mixed reviews on the ELDxs. Looks like eldx would/will perform at lower velocity, as advertised. I just got some RL 16, I will have to tryout some loads! I'm loving the performance from RL 26 too. Will post load data and some pics in a few weeks.

Very happy with 200 gr ELDX on top of 75 gr RL26, seems to be the load I'm settling on. Loaded at 3.5100 in my Rem 700 LR, used Virgin brass and WLRM primers. Best group I've had at 200 yards, kicks like a mule though.

I also like H1000 with the 208 Amax and use 75 grains of it in my .300 Win mag that can be loaded out to 3.6 inches. My guess is that the 208 Amax is in the process of being phased out to be replaced by the newer 200 grain bullets and my plans are to use H1000 with those also. My LGS has more Re26 than H1000 so I might be using Re26.

75 gr h1000 = sub moa @ 400yds & 1/2 MOA @ 500yds 200 gr eldx . I have found my thrill ....

I took my .300WM out a couple of weeks ago. 79.0 grains of Ramshot Magnum with a 208 Amax. 7" 5 shot group at 1000 yards. I ran a dope chart on it, spot on every 100 yard increments out to 1000. Windy switching day also.

My hunting load is a 215 Berger at 2950fps. It's really good on pigs and deer at all distances. It's not a bad ELR load either.

I have taken two moose with the 300WM 200 ELD-X, factory ammo. One at 100 and one a 620. Both exited. Huge exit hole on the close moose. Ran approx. 50 yards after impact. The moose at 620 bang flopped. I have been impressed with their terminal performance to date.
