300 Winchester Magnum

I have a custom 300 Winchester Magnum and I am considering using Hornady 200 gr ELD-X bullets with H1000 for powder,
CCI 250 magnum primers. Has anyone tried the ELD-X bullets yet? This is a big game rifle.
Thanks

Just returned from the range. 300wm sako finnlight. It shot the 200 eldx's really well. All bullets touching at 70.5gr. and 71.5 gr. rl 22 0.010 off lands. Starting to get warm at 71.5 with hornady brass, but it shot well. Didn't chrono yet.

I second the reloader 26. With 215 bergers I was able to get up to 3035 with reloader 26 compared to 2940ish with h1000 with equal accuracy. Also have found in my area r-26 is easier to get your hands on then h-1000. I'm able to seat these bullets out along ways and have a oal length of 3.710 to get these velocities out of a 26in barrel. Also was able to work up a load for my uncles 24" sporter barrel with 210 vlds which got me 2980 for velocity with r-26 and with h1000 was getting 2900 Oal length of 3.5ish for that rifle. Not as much data on the r-26 but in my opinion it is a really good powder for the 300 wm and the heavy bullets. Have some 200 and 212 eldx to try in the next month as well

My go to load is 75-76 gr of H1000 and the 208 Amax. I have a very fussy R700 26" sondero barrel and took a lot of testing but I have an MOA capable load with this combo.

I also like H1000 with the 208 Amax and use 75 grains of it in my .300 Win mag that can be loaded out to 3.6 inches. My guess is that the 208 Amax is in the process of being phased out to be replaced by the newer 200 grain bullets and my plans are to use H1000 with those also. My LGS has more Re26 than H1000 so I might be using Re26.

No, the A-Max is being replaced by the ELD-M and is still avail with a 208 grain, for the most part the change from the A-max is the new tip, slightly diff shape in some cases and slightly higher BC ratings. I will likely shoot all my A-Maxes in 6.5 & .308 and not worry too much.

That's good to know, I just got some RL26 & have both the 215 Ber & 208 A-Max along with H1000. It will be a good test.

Correction noted, 208 ELD vs 208 AMAX, no more AMAX is probably why I was able to buy some 208 AMAX bullets on sale(close out) since I have a modest supply of 208 Amax bullets being worried is not an option. Doing the form factor calculation with sectional density and G7 BC provides some real low form factors (low drag) for the 200 expanding bullet (.90) even better than the 95 6mm Berger VLD (.93) as shown on page 169 of the Berger Manual. How good is the Hornady's published G7 value of .336 for the 200 expanding bullet and how much faster can it be shot weighing 8 grains less. Is all this academic or what?

Your correction is appreciated.

If your shooting a 300 wm sendero I think you will have good luck. The r-26 load with 215 hybrids that I am getting 3035 with is a sendero as well. I am 5 thou off the lands with them. I didn't do a ton of seating depth checks. It shoots a .5moa for me at that speed so I called it good until the factory barrel is shot out for me.

Yes, it's a limited run Sendero with a Laminated stock, has been a shooter.

I just tried three loads out of my Rem 700 Long Range with 26" bbl in 300 win mag. I used 200 gr ELD Xs and 74, 75, and 76 gr of RL 26 with WLRM Primers and My COAL was 3.55 .
74 gr load Velocity Avg: 3015
75 gr load Velocity Avg: 3080
76 gr load Velocity Avg: 3125.

Best performance was with the 75 gr loads shots were .5 MOA at 100 yrs. And I shot center out of a clay pidgin at 212 yrds.

I will continue working on this load to get a true zero at 200 yrds for elk hunting.

Those are some fast speeds you guys are getting with R26 and the 200 ELD-X. I run the 215’s at 3000 fps with H1000. Shoots way to good for me to think about trying a different load. Have got me interested though.

We shot two cows with the 212 ELD-X last year with my .300 Win Mag and I will never use those Bullets on elk again. Came uncorked at impact at 300-400 Yards on both. Didn’t penetrate worth a darn. Made a mess of the cows. Wasn’t real impressed with how they performed on elk. I think they’d be a fine deer/antelope bullet however. Just my experience.

We have had good luck with the 200 ELDX on whitetails and hogs from a few different 300WM out to 700 yards.
Seems all 4 of ours like 70.5gr H4831 seated at mag length.
