The same military that has dumped a trillion in the F35/JSF that is only marginally better in two of a long list of aircraft capabilities than the F22.

I got to hear a 30min discussion on the superiority of the creedmoor today at the thanksgiving table from some guys that havent shot 20 rds between them in 25yrs. Same guy that keeps his 30-06 zeroed at 1000yds so anywhere from 25yds to 1000 it hits dead on. No time to figure bullet drop like those guys on tv.
Was it this target model? 30-06?

I had field and cave make me a life size crow ar500 target just for these kind of guys. If they can kill a deer at 1000yds surely they can hit a crow with one magazine at 500yds for $1000. Nobody has hit it yet.
I believe you but it only matters if they believe themselves.

I'm one of the guys who has been shooting and building guns for that round since about 2007. Magical-mystical not really. Performance wise it is a step up from a 300 WM which means it's handles all the "latest and greatest" high BC bullets better. It has no belt which for a reloader helps. It requires only a standard magnum action unlike the 300 Norma. I own both. They each have there place.
If I was starting from scratch and wanted a 30 cal. magnum I'd go 300 PRC. If I had an existing rifle in 300 WM I wouldn't change a thing.
ADG will have brass out in the 1st. quarter of 2020 so there will be another option. With all the hype I'd bet others are working on brass.

You just need to look at the print for your self. Whats the case going to do and whats it not going to do. Its not rebated so it will stagger feed a little more reliably, I centerfeed everything so it a non issue to me. Its between a 300wm and 30 nosler in size. They put the right throat on it from the start so saami reamers will work great. It will be popular so it will have quality components available for it. Its a solid choice for a hunting rifle if your looking for a case in the size range. Im glad to see it, a few years ago I was complaining about no good alternatives to the belted 300 wm. Now we have the 30 nosler and prc as well as lapua brass for the 300 Norma. Im happy, because I a fan of big 30s for hunting.

I drank the Koolaid and did one. I've done quite a bit of testing with different bullets. And, stress testing brass.
I built it as a step down from my 338 LM Imp.
And a step up from 6.5x55 GWI. I am very happy with the results I'm getting at 1500.
If you don't step on it hard, the brass holds up fine. Looking forward to better options in brass though. I found the SAMMI reamer well suited for Hornadys 225. (go figure)
And they do well for me but, I will get the next barrel throated a bit shorter. The 215 Bergers were kinda scary.

As with every new whiz bang accessory and new wonder cartridge, the corporations, companies or developers have to ratchet up the advertising verbiage in order to get our attention. No one pays any attention to the truth, it's just the hype. There is so much meaningless noise out there in all of the forms of media that they have to shout louder than ever over the top of all that noise in order to be heard or noticed. But they have to be heard in order to garner attention and produce those sales!
Now, the good products and the cartridges which live up to most of the hype hang around and eventually make a real run at the top spots. Those which were mostly hot air, fail miserably and suffer all of the slings and arrows of the public outcries against them.
We are at an extremely fortunate point in time with the development of new cartridges, powders and bullets. It seems like something new pops up every few days or weeks. Bear in mind though that some of these new advances have been in the works for several years. The release may be new but the component in question may have been around a long time already just under wraps. Also bear in mind that 'new' does not necessarily mean radically different because what we're seeing a lot of in cartridges, powders and bullets is refinement of existing components, splitting hairs. The improvements may not be huge steps but maybe more like baby steps trying to get the nuances right where they were off before. This is progress, as should occur in every field.

It is called "Marketing". A business has to continually come out with "new & remarkable" products continually, to keep the clientele interested in their products. Now, to me the real deal is in the ballistics. is the 300 PRC ballistically superior to every other 30 cal round out there, I seriously doubt it. But it is "new" and a large per cent of the market is made up of "those" who must have the latest and greatest widget, simply because it is the latest & greatest, because the ad sez so.

In 2008 I had a build commissioned off a Surgeon XL action. 30" Krieger 9 twist, McMillan Anschutz style stock, in a cartridge called the 30-375R-P, based off the 375 Ruger case.
It was the GS's brain child as what he thought would be a great 1000Y benchrest cartridge. It's nearly identical to 300PRC.
Right off I'll tell you that I'm no benchrest shooter.
But I did have some small groups with it over the years. When working a load up on the just broke in barrel the smallest was .080" for 3 shots and the next group was in the .1's. So I chose this load which was a 240gr smk at 2900 fps.
With this load I was right with my friend shooting side by side against his 338L using 250gr smk at ELR distances up to 1900 yards.
Later on when the Berger 230gr hybrid came out I did a ladder test at 300Y in .2 grain increments and had 3 consecutive shots touching so I didn't even change the seating depth and chose the middle charge. This was 230's at 2930 fps.
With this load I was also neck in neck shooting ELR with the same guy after he changed over to 300gr smk.
Years later I won a ELR match with this rifle shooting against mostly 338's and 50's. I hit the 2365 yard plate on the first shot.
I also won 3-4 steel matches out to 1450Y. I could still self spot at distance because of the low-ish recoil and it helped making corrections by seeing the "large" dust signature those big 230's created. As well as giving .2-.3 mils less windage as my 6x47 had. Very fun hearing how loud that bullet hit the steel too! Ha, we had one small steel at 400Y that was attached to a big spring, had to engage it twice within 10 seconds, those 230's hit it "too hard", making it go absolutely crazy, so I almost didn't have time to get it the second time!
I liked that I could seat these heavy bullets above the NSJ to take advantage of all the powder capacity and still use the 5 and 10 shot AI magazines.
I like the low recoil comparatively to the 338's. My rifle is 23lbs with a brake so it's very soft shooting.
Lastly, I visited an acquaintance ELR shooter I'd met on a forum. He, his 3 friends and I went out for his ELR practice session from 1450Y to 2100Y. Not bragging but I hit almost as much as all of them put together. It wasn't my shooting skills just that the cartridge had small vertical and did well enough in the wind to be the most consistent there that day. Ha, as luck would have it, the next day the barrel died, it had 1500 rounds through it.
My smallest 5 shot group at 1000Y was 2.5" tall and 4" wide on steel. That's not bad off a wobbly Harris bipod and a tactical rear bag. In the right hands, etc, I think this rifle/cartridge would have been capable of winning in benchrest or F class.
All I'm saying is the 300PRC strikes a good balance in powder capacity, using heavy bullets, at 2900-ish fps, in a longer barrel, while getting decent barrel life. I used Hornady brass and most lasted over 10 cycles so I wasn't pushing the case.
Could the 300PRC be to the 300WSM, like what the 6mmGrinch is to the 6mmPPC, maybe??

I built one because Frank Green talked about it when I was discussing a 300WM barrel with him, which sparked my curiosity. He recommended Dave Tooley to spin it up, which interested me due to his knowledge from the cartridge conception. Frank said I should be able to send a 225 around 2900 out of a 30” tube. The rest was history. Had nothing to do with the marketing. I was just looking for something new as my 300WM wasn’t getting the velocity out of the heavy like I wanted and I respect the knowledge and recommendations from Frank Green and Dave Tooley. It’s my pride and joy rifle now!
Next is building a 300 PRC deer rifle for launching 210-220 gr hunting bullets faster than my win mag will push them.

I'm glad you guys that actually have knowledge of this cartridge and given your voice to this topic. I have been shooting a 30-06 for a long time and this is the first time I have been interested in a different 30 cal. cartridge. This sounds like the perfect choice for shooting the heavy 225+ bullets and take advantage of their potential compared to a 30-06. All the others just didn't do enough for me to want to fill that void in 30. cal. until now. Thanks.

Now the rest of the story. I was chambering a round based off the 8X68S case. 30 BooBoo Perfect size with fantastic brass. Problem is it's feast or famine sourcing brass. I was doing a lot of work for the Hornady 1K BR gang. One day I get a call. Hey take a look at this we're tired of chasing brass. I said a bit more capacity than I like but should work. Now here we are. Bigger better bullets make it shine.
