300 Norma mag. VS 300 PRC

Talk me into one or the other.
I do own a 300 NMI now, that would be a plus having the reloading
components for it, but not apposed to trying something new.
Going to be for 600yds. to a mile, in a chassis or stock for shooting paper
or steel only.
Do you find one easier to find loads for?
Slightly more accurate?

300 NMI is definitely faster than the 300 PRC, but with good brass from ADG or Lapua, the PRC will pretty much run right along side the standard 300 Norma Mag for speed.

My 338-375 Ruger, based on the same 375 Ruger parent case as the PRC, will easily match and even outpace the 338 Norma Mag. Im only running 76gr of H4350 and getting 2980 fps with a 250gr Berger in a 26” barrel.

Thats also quite a bit faster than the listed data for a 338 Lapua using a 250gr bullet and I’m using 10+gr less powder.

Point being…The 375 Ruger case design used by the newer PRC family of cartridges is very fast, effective at long range and efficient with speed/powder ratios.

I think Alex Wheeler had a 300 PRC hunting rifle with 215gr Bergers rocking at 3100+ fps

What brass do you use? Necked up 300 PRC brass?

I wouldn’t Change, the slight bit of extra case capacity helps with the heavies as does the case design, if anything I’d go 300NM improved just to minimize case growth.

Looking to find a big 30 cal. that does that for me.
Honestly, a big 338 cal will probably fit that need better. I love 30 cal and have a 300 NMI as well, running 220gr Berger at 3200 fps, but there’s still no 30 cal cartridge or bullet I’ve found that can compare to the terminal energy delivered by a big 338 Berger bullet hitting an animal when hunting. The big 33s are very impressive and just seem to hit so much harder at long range.

Even a slow 300 Berger thumps steel and critters with authority at distance.
