30 BR barrel length

what is max bbl length the 30BR will shoot at its best with 118 class bullets,,my rifle is set up with ST1000F stock with a short lop to shoot 100% free recoil and I shoot it better with heavier bbl ..
where would you have it cut off at,,is 24" max or will 26" shoot as well,I assume 28" would be over the top?

Oh. Well to duplicate the success and to be able to shoot common loads without changing powders and such you may have to get it on down short

most 30br barrels are 20 to 24 inch but since your just shooting for fun I would go 26" or 28" with a HV contour.

do you think it will shoot the same powders and tune as easy as claimed with the shorter bbls,,savageguy has a couple 17 twist 28 inch HV so somebody is shooting long barreled 30BRs or cutting off a lot of a new blank,,

I guess if it doesnt tune well at 28 I can have it cut back,

It's easier to sell long blanks, The rifle might not balance as good. It should tune just as good but for point blank accuracy over the years they found shorter is better but don't let that stop you from trying, you might stumble onto something.

brakes aren't legal in comp but if they were you would see people using them, the 30br is kind of a violent cartridge, sharp recoil that can loosen screws. so for you I would recommend a brake.

A 28" barrel works fine. You'll get significantly higher velocity than with a shorter barrel. Mine run around 3150 fps.

My granddaughter started shooting one of my 16.5 pound 30 BR's free recoil when she was about twelve and kind of small for her age with no problems. I wouldn't consider a brake or a tuner.

After a goodly number of rounds I set the barrel back and also cut 0.3" off the muzzle end. 28", 26.5" and 25" all shoot the same except for a drop in velocity. Requires some re-tuning.
