6 dasher barrel length?

What would be the reccomended barrel length for a 6 dasher
1-8 twist 31 HV blank,,,looks like finish length of 28" would that be right?
will be a 600yrd light gun may also shoot some F class stuff with it.

I have a 28" and a 24". I need an extra 2.5 M.O.A. of elevation at 600 yards w/the 24", but still shoots fine. I would get a 28" w/some extra meat so you can set the barrel back at least once.I let my first barrel go 3000+ before set back and needed to cut 4" down, I wouldn't wait that long again.

ok looks like will be 28" but i was wondering if i would be hurting if i said to cut it to 26"

I am actually about to set my back to 26". The decrease in velocity from a shorter barrel is more noticeable at 1000 yards, but the precision is still just as good. Velocities of a shorter barrel should be comparable to the standard 6br, but I haven't chronographed anything since my unit broke.

Here's an interesting daily bulletin where a shooter tests different barrel lengths on a 6br rail gun and records the velocity: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2011/12/barrel-length-and-velocity-barrel-cut-down-tests/

A 31" length will finish 30" and under, velocity from 30 to 28 drops about 7-8 fps. for every inch. below that drops off a lot more. I think 28 is a very good length with out a major hit in velocity and it is easy to balance they fit in a normal case, even with a brake......jim
