30 BR Alternate powder choices, other than H4198

Since H4198 is only available from person to person, is IMR 4198 or LT 32 a Viable alternative? AA2200?

Crazy times we live in for sure.

I appreciate any feedback.

Aye, H4198 has been scarce as hen's teeth for what seems like forever!

I think N130 and LT-30 (more so than LT-32) are the two other .30 BR powders that we sometimes see.

Here's the propellant chart out of QuickLoad, using a Berger 115gr FBHP and centered around H4198's burning rate. It's interesting to note that H4198 is well down the list from a pure performance standpoint. Of course, eking out every last foot per second isn't what we're after with the .30 BR. H4198 has the track record. But it does suggest that there may be some unexplored powders worth looking at.

In addition to N130 and LT-30, I'd put RL-7 and IMR-4198 on the short list worth exploring.

Buddy built 30br and is using Shooter's World Socom. Says giving better results than h4198 in his 30br for 300yd f open class. Finer granules so doesn't fill as high into neck when seating berger 115fb bullets.

VV-N130 Looks pretty good in my rifle. LT-32 does O K but not as accurate as VV-N130.

Oh....the accuracy is there with other powders than H4198.

The real test of a powder in the 30BR is how it acts over a full days competition...which is sometimes two yardages. ;)

I have found LT-30 to be the closest thing to H4198. Just a tad slower than my current lots of 4198.
Norma 200 also shoots pretty good. It takes about .5 more to hit the load window, but since it is a finer grain, there is no problem getting it n tree.

A note about LT-30 I have two 8 pounders bought within a few months of each other, and they don’t even look like the same powder.

one is pure black. The other is black with tan colored granules mixed all in. As far as I can tell, they shoot the same.

You hit it right on the head Al. Nothing is as consistent as H4198 in a 30BR. Nothing.
