30-284 with 190gr+ bullets

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with the 30-284 and heavy bullets. What velocity or accuracy did you get? I am looking at using it for 600-1000 yard benchrest. Do not want to buy a mag bolt.
Thanks
Jared

Have a look at the 30/376 Steyr case as its a stronger case and should provide better velocity with the heavy bullets!

Ian

Edit: It doesn't fit a 308W bolt face so not a good suggestion. Back to the 30-284!

Take a look at the ballistics of the 7mm Berger 180 Hybrid bullet and compart it to your 30 caliber at 1,000 yards. You will need a 240 bullet to equal the 180 gr 7mm...go with the 7mm in a Shehane pushed at 2950 fps and you will have a better cartridge for bucking the wind and drop...and less recoil.

The Berger .30 cal 215 Hybrid has a higher bc than the 7mm 180. The Berger 230g Hybrid has a MUCH higher bc. Still, you are going to be launching either bullet at 30-06 velocities (since the .284 case is roughly equivalent in capacity to the 06).

Also keep in mind that Berger is preparing to release a 195g 7mm bullet. Who knows what kind of bc it will have?!? When you take into account all factors, I would say the 7mm wins in this case capacity.

The 215 Berger will get about 2650 in a .30-284 with a long target barrel throated properly.
