30-284 Winchester anyone shooting it

I didn't get to shoot anymore today slight setback, the 6.5x284 lapua brass when I neck it up even with 3 stages of expansion, there is a donut at shoulder junction. I had to screw the barrel off an throat it so the 200x20x bullet would be just out of donut in case I have to seat off the lands for tune.

How are you liking the 20x bullets and how do they sort?

Well gentlemen I went out to play with the 30-284 shooting the 200x20x.I dedicated four cases to this project to look for pressures, my last load with Hodgdon 4350 give me 2824 fps bolt is easy to lift the primer pockets are still snug so now I will try to tune for accuracy the last 3 shots at 300yds was about 1 1/2 inches time to get serious now temperature was 49degrees I know I will have to change loads for warmer temperatures.

I believe Darrell Jones of DJ's Brass Service shot one a few years back.
Think he had it at St. Louis once.

Well it's a little cool here this morning, I screwed off my13 twist and screwed on my 9 twist, for the 30-284 and shot 10 Rounds to break the Barrel in and shot a couple powder charges no pressures at 2775 fps View attachment 1141370 with the 200 by 20 x hybrids I will dedicate those 5 cases 2 pressure problems then I will start tuning.P.S. here is a pic of the first 10 rounds out of the new 9 twist.

Stan,

What was the shooting distance?

It's very popular in french country . You can take also the Swiss 7.5x55 to form it very good quality brass (Norma ,RWS or Ruag).Like
the 7.5x55 ,the 30/284 is very accurate !

Michel
Michel, when using that 7.5 brass, are you having to deal with neck donuts after expanding to 7.62?

Stan, Yep, major donuts when using 6.5-284 brass. That photo shows typical cuttings when using an inside neck reamer. Wonderful cartridge but pita getting brass setup for it...

I have a 30-284. I haven't shot it a lot.
I can tell you for me using 6.5-284 brass I did have a lot of issues with doughnuts!!
I tried the 168 bergers and they never shot at all
tried the 178 Hornady with R-26, that worked well.
Cant remember the exact numbers, but I know it was more that the 30-06 and slightly lower that a 30-06 AI.
Was kind of 3/4 of the way to the AI
