30-06

In my all my research for a future 30-06 build the name that comes to the fore is German Salizar. I have read a few of his articles on Accurate Shooter but everybody always refrences his Riflemans Blog, it appears that it is a by invitation only blog. So what I am asking is how do I get Mr. Salizar to give me an invite? Thanks folks.

Mr Salazar has rightfully retired, and has taken down his blog.

Most of us have done our best to glean as much information as we could, but alas we will miss German and wish him the best.

Well nuts. I wish him the best in his retirment. I guess I will have to glean as much as a can from here.

Ptg Serengeti reamer was his listed fav, as was Sierra 190 MK. That tended to give best BC and Velocity combo for across the course fire. Naturally 30" was ideal for maximum velocity.

I've been wanting to build a 30-06 as well, and thought 190-210gr; 208 Amax might be a good choice. A 1-11twist is sufficient for that, though a 1-10 would be better if I would try heavier bullets.

His article on heavy for caliber is what made me take another look at the 06. My barrel builder has the Serengeti and I was thinking a 28" heavy palma contour would be just the ticket for the 215's or possibly the 230's. I have seen reports of a few folks using H1000 with the 230's and getting deccent results.

Mr. Salazar helped me with a 30-06 about 8-10 years ago. Mine has the Serengeti chamber and I was interested in the 215 Hybrids. Have 30" barrel and I get about 2700. Best accuracy, SD, is with H4350. 4831 is not as good. He wanted me to try R17 and thought I could increase velocity with it.
Those loads were highly inaccurate and didn't increase velocity much.
Also tried the H 208 and they were over 2700 with good accuracy but not as good as the Berger. It would be a good second choice to try or maybe one of the new Hornady designs.
The old round will still shoot. Use 180-215 gr bullets and a 8-10" 1000yd gong is hit every time you do your part. Doubt you will ever wear out the barrel.
In my book, German Salazar knew as much about the .30-06 as any one that has ever written about it.

wbogs I was just reading some of your old posts on the 06 Lots of good info. Every thing I have been able to find by Mr Salazar has been most informative. I cann't wait to get on this build after we get moved this summer. Thanks for info gents

Maybe the forum boss could obtain Mr Salazaar's articles and publish them here for record as I liked reading his articles along with a good education on fine tuning.

German Salazar had a mechanical engineering degree from GA Tech. PO Ackley had one from Ohio State. Both had opinions based on scientific evidence and personal experience, a rare combination. It was my pleasure to know and learn from both. The shooting fraternity has been honored by their membership.

He told me he went to GA. Tech and studied Mech. Engineering, later Law. Just the facts. I have no intention of engaging you on this subject. It serves no purpose.

It would be great if someone could host all of his articles. It would be shame for all of that info to be lost. WBoggs does he still shoot out in Pheonix? We are moving to Yuma if he is still shooting out there it would be cool to bump into him.

Ask jkl about German's current situation. It has been awhile since I talked with him but he was having shoulder trouble then. wboggs
