30-06 accuracy load !

I rebuilt a Remington 700 30-06 that has been modified with a 26'' Criterion 1-10 twist heavy varmit. I've been loading 46.5 gr of IMR 4895, wanting to try IMR 4350, pushing a 175gr. SMKBTH, I have also upgraded to a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock, aluminum block and bedded.
I'm looking for a load to shoot 600- 1000yds and be competitive. Is Varget a better choice for powder ? Possibly something a little less sensitive to temperature change.
Thank you for comments and opinions.....

You might try The rifleman's journal by German Salazar. He shot a 30-06 in long range for a long time and is well versed with the cartridge.

I am shooting 190 sierras with 52.8 grains of Hodgdon 4350 with tula primers and Winchester prepped brass. this is out of a springfield 1903-a4 with Criterion barrel. phenomenal accuracy!!!

In the 30-06 you can't beat either flavor of 4350 for 168 or heavier bullets.
It fills the case and burns almost completely.
I've always found 57g behind a 168 and 56g behind a 175 to shoot extremely well.

You should say "in a bolt action" because this load in a M1 Garand will bend the Op Rod because the gas port pressure would be too high. ;)

I shot the .30-06 with heavier match bullets (180, 190 and 200's) for years using IMR 4350 like most shooters did. After RL-19 came out, most of my .30-06 rifles have liked it better than 4350.

I use H4895 with 150gn bullets and H4350 with 165's. My most accurate loads came in at 1 gn below hodgdons max loads for each powder.

Another vote for IMR 4350 - it's almost like it was developed for 150's to 180's in the 06. If I were limited to only one powder, this would be it.

Springfield 03-a4, IMR 4064 47.0 grns. Berger or Sierra 155's, used for shooting at steel at 300 yrds offhanded, my go to fun gun!

Either IMR or H4350 with a Berger 168 VLD (velocity goes to IMR and accuracy goes to H, by small margins respectively). I run them pretty warm with a Wolf LRM. My 30-06 is a Remington 700 SPS that GAP did their tune up on years ago. I did keep the factory barrel on it and it shoots better than it has any right to. Unfortunately, it is light and recoil is a factor.

I really would like to rebarrel/restock the thing, but it shoots too good to mess with.

Accuracy load?

What does your chamber measure? min-oal chamber is the ticket. How much brass expansion and stretching are you getting?

I would look at the 200gr match for reduced wind drift and better trajectory. Consult your Sierra manual; they always publish an "accuracy load" for each bullet.

If not shooting 180gr or heavier bullets, you have missed the boat. The .308 has it over the 06 for accuracy with up to 175gr smk. Definitely no need to go 168gr. With longer case and less compact powder charge you lose some accuracy potential already. Shoot the heavies to make up for it and make use of your velocity gain potentials.

Thank you all for the info. I've picked up some 200 grn molly coated from a friend who has been shooting the 06' for a longtime. Going with IMR 4350 and IMR 4064 with several recipies to try for working up the best 600 yd. load.
