3 miles !

That article does not list shot count (how many tries it took). That's important, in my mind. It appears to say "8 shots" on the steel, but does that include sighters? Ranging Shots? You get the idea.

Here's a interesting factoid from the write-up: "The Earth’s curvature is calculated to be about three miles at six feet, so Poor had to fire from a raised platform to see the target. A spotter watched the target with binoculars, while another was downrange."

It may be a notable accomplishment. We shall see. Here's a photo:

Think it may have taken 8 shots to hit it! think that's one hit there pointing to. And i think it key holed.

So these fella's set up a target and drove back 3 miles and hit it in eight shots? Thats amazing ,sounds like fun

Definitely looks like a keyhole but regardless it is a hit and at 5280 yards. I've never shot past 2000 so I won't attempt to pass judgement on how many tries it may have taken.

Pumping unit off the guy on the rights shoulder is probably safe at that distance LOL lease road directly behind the target as well.

From the article:
"Cold weather will lessen density altitude, basically the thickness of the air as it is measured from sea level, Poor said. Hot weather likewise will thicken it. This affects whether the bullet will fly directly to the target or if it will need to climb to sustain its lift."...WTF!!

Then this:
“In order to shoot in that low of density altitude, I had to come up much higher in the scope,” Poor said. “The scope had to have more dope in it and the barrel had to be at a much deeper arch to hit the target.”...WTF...again!!

Everything he said is either exactly backwards or flat out wrong. (Bullets sustain lift in flight? Really?). Given the level of knowledge presented, I doubt it.

The last "record" was done in 38 shots. How is that a record? I can take a browning fifty cal and do a burst in a targets direction and it hit in less than 38.

The guy who did it in less than 10 shots. That’s pretty impressive.

I would guess the reporter who wrote the article misquoted much of what he said. Sort of like when a plane crashes, they report the pilot didn't file a flight plan, as if that were a factor. The level of journalism today is probably around where I was in the fifth grade writing compositions.

And sports journalism is the worst. And shooting journalism is basically those who couldnt get a job anywhere else.
