3-flute roughing reamer. How deep before cleaning?

Hello. I have used my finish reamers to chamber barrels in the past but I foresee more full chamber jobs for me in the future.

I bought a 3-flute carbide 308 roughing reamer from JGS. I'm using Mic-O-Cut cutting fluid and I don't have a flush system at the moment. With my finish reamers, i used to cut 0.050", then pull them out, clean, re-lube, cut, rinse and repeat until the job was done.

With no flush system, how deep can I cut with this 3-flute reamer before removing and cleaning?

Tony.

Thanks!

From post number 1: I bought a 3-flute carbide 308 roughing reamer from JGS. ;)

How would you describe that it will tell me?

Ha! Sorry, hadn't fully woken up yet.

How? Trial and error? Rest a finger on the reamer holder... you'll be able to feel it... as well as tailstock pressure. It should be obvious when it's getting full.

Next rougher you order... ask for a spiral ground. You can run it the whole depth and chips just pour out the breach
