284 and new Berger Hybrid 180 ---- reports??

Can you really control your bullet seating in .0005" steps, if so please tell me how to do that. I'm lucky to have a seating range of 1 to 2 thousands.

I have much better results with the new 180 jumping them 0.015 to 0.020".

for you guys that are shooting the hybrids, how have the velocities been compared with your vld load? are you running the same amount of powder to get the same speed or are you having to increase your charge to get the same speed? i have some sitting here that i haven't got out to shoot yet. when i talked to bryan l he told me that i would probably have to increase my powder charge to maintain my speed since the hybrid has a shorter bearing surface. thanks in advance.

Jim:

Keep us updated. This is very promissing. Along with Jerry's data, it looks like the accuracy node will be from .005 off to .020 off.

In anticipation of my upcoming .284, and to try out when the time arrives, I got a couple of boxes here:

But it looks like they're currently out of stock

Hi Guys new to the site. I shoot F-Class here in New Zealand. The first I had heard of these Hybrids was reading this thread. Could some please explain what they are?
Thanks
Darryll

Bryan Litz with Berger would be the best to explain

But basically they took all the positive aspects of their great VLD design and merged it with their Target BT bullet

It is a great design and shows a lot of promise

To the people who are shooting the new Berger Hybrid 180s, what is the part number on the box. Just want to make sure we are talking about the same bullet.

Has anyone in this bunch tried the Berger 175XLD's?? Jerry, you got any input on these??

What about the 182gr Match Target XLRBT, part #28406??? Anyone??

I shot this weekends match with the 180Hybrids, and only lost 2 points to vetical! These are keepers...I'll never mess with the 180vlds again as long as I can get my hands on these hybrids...Found some more this morning too!!

Jim,

I only had one day to test the three new bullets before the F-Class Nationals. (Very,Very, small sample). Plain old 284.

Ended up using the 180 XDR for 600 yards and the 175XLD for all of the 1000 yard matches including the team tryouts.

03-05-2010 Sacramento 100-yard chronograph testing --Temperature = 63 degrees, Humidity = 54%
Five shot groups --- Powder = H4831 --- Lapua cases ---- Primer = CCI-BR

Bullet -------------------- H4831--- COAL --- MV ----- SD ---- ES ---- Group --- Comments
B180 VLD THICK ----- 54.0 ----- 3.225" --- 2798 ----- 12 ----- 04 ---- 0.496” --- In .017”
This load was used to place second over all in the 2009 NBRSA 1000 yard Nationals.

B175 XLD --------------- 54.0 ----- 3.308" --- 2807 ----- 12 ----- 04 ---- 0.207” --- In .015”
B175 XLD --------------- 54.5 ----- 3.308" --- 2825 ----- 11 ----- 04 ---- 0.358” --- In .015”
B175 XLD --------------- 54.0 ----- 3.278" --- 2793 ----- 18 ----- 06 ---- 0.346” --- Jump .015”
B175 XLD --------------- 54.5 ----- 3.278" --- 2807 ----- 06 ----- 02 ---- 0.445” --- Jump .015”
B180 XDR --------------- 54.0 ----- 3.266" --- 2779 ----- 16 ----- 06 ---- 0.381” --- Jump .015”
B180 XDR --------------- 54.5 ----- 3.266" --- 2800 ----- 10 ----- 04 ---- 0.384” --- Jump .015”
B182 XLR --------------- 54.0 ----- 3.308" --- 2757 ----- 16 ----- 06 ---- 0.547” --- Jump .015”
B182 XLR --------------- 54.5 ----- 3.308" --- 2776 ----- 11 ----- 04 ---- 0.443” --- Jump .015”

I shot several two man team matches with Danny Biggs just before the nationals, my straight 284 (175xld) at 2800 fps, Dan's shehane 284 (180 VLDS) at 2900 fps and we did not see any difference in wind drift between them. We did coach each other.

My supply of the three bullets is just enough for testing in Oct. and shooting one of them in the NBRSA Nationals.

does anybody know the indicated BC for the 175XLD and the XLR BT ?

I read this thread with extreme interest as we cannot get to try any of these bullets in the Good ol UK !

with regards

Gary Costello

Mr.Litz says the BC on the 175 XLD will be slightly higher than the 180 VLD. From what I have been told its still up in the air as to whether or not the 182's will go into regular production
