280 Ackley Improved modified case

Hey guys, I can't seem to find a 280 AI modified case to use with my Hornday OAL gauge. Can I just use a 280 Remington modified case? Thanks

I tried that using a 257 Roberts case instead of a 257AI case. I did have a fire formed 257AI case threaded for this use, and although I don't recall the numbers, they were a bunch different. Not really a good answer I know, but it's what happened. Barlow

I assume you have fire formed brass. You can make your own, or send 2 fired cases to Hornady and they will make one for you.

Custom Case Modification
Any of your brass, including all wildcat sizes, can be custom modified at our factory for use with either gauge. Simply send us two fired cases by mail for quick turnaround.

Please include contact information, two fired pieces of brass (not deprimed or resized, in case there are issues creating the modified case) as well as a check or money order for $15.00 for customers inside the USA. Please make checks payable to Hornady Manufacturing. We ask that you please use FedEx, UPS, or other direct shipping service. Using USPS may result in item returned to sender.

I'd make my own, once you have the drill bit & the 5/16 x 36 tap its quite easy. - On my 280 AI I used 1 piece of new Nosler brass to start out with which got me in the "ball park" then after you've fire-formed some brass just make another that fits your chamber perfectly. - I "hold" the brass with a hand held case holder used for neck turning (Sinclair) which the "V- blocks" hold well enough to prevent slip of the case when you drill through with the drill bit. - Easy to do, costs less, and no waiting on others to provide it. - The drill bit & tap will last for many future uses.

And I can't see why you could use a 280 Remington case provided the brass is a close enough match to your chamber until you got some fire-formed.
