28 Nosler barrel length for ELR shooting

for you guys with 28 Nolsers shooting either the 180 elds, 195g bergers, or 197 SMKs, what is the best barrel length? only looking to push it 3000-3100 and trying to keep the recoil mild (for spotting). would you go with 28"? or 26"? or something else?

For ELR, most likely be stationary for a length of time. I've yet to see anyone add to a barrel, and most likely it's 100.00 or less to lop some off and re-crown.

We run them 3050 in 26" thats an accuracy node, you can run them much faster. The issue with this case and ELR is extreme throat wear. Not an issue for a hunting rifle, but its too much in a comp rifle.

Figure throat wear/advancement of .010" per 100 rounds minimum. By 700 I would expect to see accuracy fall off.

thanks for the info. that's ok. i'll only be shooting a few ELR matches a year. so, a barrel a year is pretty easy. hell, I go through 3-4 6mm barrels a year.

the next question is what is the long range outlook for brass for the 28 Nosler? doesn't seem to be any in stock anywhere. also, at 3050 fps with the 195s what is the brass life?

I've noticed a few post stating 28 Nosler brass not in stock or hard to find. I spoke with ADG (advance development group), and they are planning on making 28 nosler brass this year. however, you could get some 26 nosler brass and neck up.

thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if they were exactly the same size case or not (kinda like the 7mm wsm is not the same as the 270/300 wsm) thanks, that would be easy enough

I'm running 34" and easily obtained a node where I got 3220 fps with a mild load of RE-33 (86.0 gr.) and the 180 gr. Berger VLD. - I like longer barrels where slower powders are used. - I haven't had the opportunity to test as much as some of the other shooters have so I've not yet tested the 195 & 197 gr. bullets.
