28 Nosler 195 Berger loads

Just got a 28 Nosler built on a Stiller predator action, Bartlein barrel 27.5" 1 in 8 twist.
Had chamber throated so that the 195's were .015 off the lands and the boat tail of the bullet is just above where the shoulder and neck meet.
While performing the break in we were getting 2800 fps with only 69.5 grains of Retumbo and at 70 we started seeing pressure signs. I was wondering if anyone had any known good loads to start with useing other powders.

Reloader 33 start around 85 grains. Reports are around 88ish is the place to be. Start low, you know the usual caveats.

What is your freebore?

RL33 is the "powder" for the 28 Nosler.

With retumbo you should be able to shoot about 80 grains. I like 85 grains of rl33, will give mid 3000s in a 26" barrel and a wide node. 88-89 is the high node and will get you up to almost 3200 or so. What is your oal? Id bet you may have had solvent in the chamber, you shouldnt be even close to pressure

William,
Please send us an email to techsupport@bergerbullets.com . We have load data for the 28 NOSLER using our 195 EOL and the other Berger 7mm bullets all ready to go.

Nosler shows a starting load of 75 grains of Retumbo for a 175 grain bullet. When there is no data available I use the formula of removing 1 grain of powder for every 10 grains of bullet weight. So your starting charge should be around 73 grs. THERE ARE MANY VARIABLES that can affect this so keep this in mind. If you can get me the freebore in your rifle I can get you a closer prediction. Right now I'm thinking your starting load is too light and you are seeing something else.

Thanks for all your help guys, I found a really good load for my rifle today. Without pushing it I have it shooting right at 3000 fps with 84.5 grains of RL33. Group was less than half inch. Very satisfied with the results.
