.270 VLD

Am in love with VLD bullets but can't find a custom bullet maker who makes a .270 140-150gr VLD. Does anyone know of such a product?
BTW, I have shot the Sierra 135 MK with a BC of 435. Works great, but looking for something better, hence the .270 VLD question

Come to think of it, it shouldn't be that difficult with a good press to run a few A-max in 7mm through a bullet sizer in .277" and the twist rate would be OK...

We are going to make .270 VLD bullets by the middle of 2007. Our goal is to have these bullets available before the 2007 hunting season.

Eric may want to comment on this but IMHO that's a bad idea. Simply squeezing a bullet from one diameter to another may seem ok but what will probably happen is that the jacket will spring back a little while the core will not. They will shoot, but don't expect any kind of accuracy.

We have never tried to squeeze a finished bullet down to a smaller diameter. We have sized down jackets before and those work well enough. Whether it is a good idea or not will depend on the goal. If you want a bullet to fit and hunt with that doesn't need to be really accurate,whatever that means) then it might work.

It is likely that the tip will pop out since the lead will flow forward. The tip might blow the copper nose out as well. Moving the core around inside the jacket might not be so bad since the force will be from the bottom and the sides. Using the right lube will be important. Without actually doing it I am speculating but my bet is that it won't work as well as one might like.

Since you are decreasing the diameter .007 you will get an amount of gathering,thickening) of the jacket around the bearing surface along with a lengthening of this area. This material movement may or may not be uniform,mostly dependant on lube and alignment). Give it a shot if you have the die and the time. I'm curious.

Wildcatbullets.com makes some Ultra Low drag bullets in various weights. I know he has 150s, 169.5, and 185 gr .277 RBBT ULD bullets.

Excellent news Eric. There are many shooters who have been very dissapointed not to be able to get these bullets. I'll be ordering as soon as they are available.
