260 rem loads

Having a 260 rem built 1-8" twist . Bullet choice Berger 140 gr 26504 VLD Hunting Bullet . Lapua brass . H4350 . Any suggestions for loads ?

The other question I have is has anyone shooting 308 win Lapua brass small primer necked down to 6.5 - 260 rem ? Any load difference to 260 rem brass and their large primer ?

well my DTA SRS 260 loves 42.6grns of H4350, shoots bug holes all day long with the 140grn Berger Hybrids in Lapua brass and Fed primers. BUT dont use this load in your rifle straight off. Always start 10% low and work up slowly.

I would tell you in my opinion to use only .260 lapua and forget the small primers for now.I to use around 40.0 or so of h4350 behind 142 sierra matchkings.

Very interested to hear you load for the DTA I have just got the same rifle and had actually just loaded 42 gr of 4350 to try with FED 210 And hybrids, what seated depth did you end up with, in on or jump?

H4350 with Lap 260 brass should work great for you. I would start around 40 gr and work up. In my rifle I have two accuracy nodes 40.7 and 43.9. I stick with the lighter load since I get stiff bolt lift and a few blown primers when the gun heats up with the 43.9. I use 139 lap Scenars and 142 Sie HPBT. I did buy some Bergers that I want to try out.

I am have another rifle rebarreled for 260 and will start new load development for that one as well. Hope to have it back from the Smith in a week or so.

Good Luck.

Good luck with your .260! I built one last winter and have right around 1300 rounds through it. Your component choices should work well for you. I used the Lapua .260 Rem. brass and am very happy with it. Very consistent brass.

Pressure signs were predictable as my charges increased and I found some great accuracy nodes, but one was too hot. As JET previous posted, start low per the manuals. My accuracy nodes were near his with one in between.

Enjoy your .260. I've shot mine out to 1000 yds. and am pleased with my choice.

As you probably know the hybrids will shoot pretty well from anywhere but i get that little tighter group 15 thou jump off the lands, you will have to experiment from touching going back in 5 thou incrememnts. Im not a great fan of jamming tho.

I've just rebarrelled a M70 into 260 Remington. Had it throated it for the Berger 130 grain VLD Hunting. 44.7 grains 4831sc. It's near max in the Berger manual. Start low and work up.

I use Win 7-08 brass, it requires the full prep treatment, but I have some with 25 reloads, I anneal every 3-4 firings, after 3900 rounds my 260 barrel has seen better days, but still bug holes, I'm loading 142smk at 2.130 ojive or 2.850 mag length, 44.5 H4350, CCi 200 primers in the Win brass, 2790fps, my SD is 3 and ES is 6, today I made a 2nd round hit at 1780 yards on steel, 24.8 Mils elevation, 2.0 Mils right wind hold, DA was 2200.

Weeks away from the completion of my 260 rem . Many thanks for all the responses I will be posting my load results when completed .

I had my .260AI built with that exact load in mind. Nothing I did could get it to shoot like I wanted wanted with the 140 range bullets and I was sooo frustrated until one day I tried a handful of bullets in the 120 grain range. BINGO! It started shooting lights out from then on. It loves everything in the 120-123 range, but just won't shoot the heavier bullets to an exceptable level.

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't do like me and get fixated on one particular load, get frustrated, and use half the barrels life trying to make it work.

I have my 260 Rem . It has a 29" Broughton heavy barrel Rem 700 action - Canjar trigger - Bell Carlson Medalist stock - 8-32x56 Sigjhtron .

Now we start to load .

139 gr Scenars - H4350 - F210M primers . Starting with 38.0 grs up to 40.0 grs to start . Away we go .

Remington 260 brass or Winchester 7mm-08 brass neck sized to 6.5
142 SMK, Berger 140, Lapua 139 Scenar 8 thou off the lands
43.3 H4350
Winchester primers

2850 fps

With the 142 SMK's I cleaned my last 600 yard mid range NRA match 20-12X with this load.

12 moa with the scope @ 600
12 3/4 moa with iron sights @600
With a 100 yard zero on both sights.
