260 Rem loads, lets see them!

I recently re-barreled a Remington short-action to .260. It is a Rem-age 24-inch barrel. My go-to bullet is the 129 Interlock. I got a few 120 Speers with some of the 129s that I got (on here) and here is the result of some testing.

I did not chrono the Speers, as I was mainly just using them to get rounds down the barrel.

120 Speer
39 Gr. Varget
45 gr. H4350
Both loads are easily sub-moa.

129 Interlock.
42.5 gr. H4350
2800 fps

129 Interlock
46 gr Re19
2800 fps

129 Interlock
42.2 gr IMR4451
2800 fps

129 Interlock
44.7 gr IMR4350
2990 fps

129 Interlock
44 gr Re17
3010 fps

I also had a handful of 143 ELD-X that I got from the guy that screwed my barrel on.

143 ELD-X
46 gr IMR 4831
2700 fps.

All of these loads are easily sub-moa and most are more like 1/2 moa. They all are much more accurate than my old eyes are! All loads are with Hornady Match .308 brass and the bullets are seated to just over book length. I never owned a rifle that would shoot accurately with literally every load that I used, except for this barrel and a 7 mag that also has a Criterion barrel.

I have shot three deer with the Interlocks and Re 17 with expected results. I shot a large buck at about 200 yards through both front quarters. The Interlock retained 72 grains and was under the hide on the off side. The buck collapsed.

So far, I am extremely pleased and impressed with this caliber/rifle.

This is great guys- with all the "next best" fads I was beginning to feel that I was the only one still running a 260!

140 Berger Hybrid
Lapua Case using .292 bushing
Wolf LR primer
46.5 grs H4831SC or H4831
.016" off the lands.
Chamber FB is .160"

Runs 2775 fps with 24" barrel. Outstanding accuracy.

140 Berger vld, 46.0 gr 4831sc, Rem brass, WW primer, 292 neck loaded just on the lands. 26" Brux. 2840 fps, .3s to 600. After that .5 to 1000. 140 Amax about the same. 139 scenars better to 600 but not as good to 1000. Sorry no targets, been quite a while since it's seen daylight.

Savage w/ Criterion 28" 1/8 twist bull barrel:

Hornady 140 ELD Match
Lapua brass
CCI 200
42.6 gr H4350
OAL: 2.895"

This load yields me an average of 2825 fps and is producing 1/3 MOA @ 300 yards. Have not tested beyond 300 yards (yet).

Savage with a 30" McGowen

Hornady 147 ELD
Lapua brass
CCI BR2
Powder: IMR 4451
Temp: 51F

This was my second time out with this bullet. First time out was to determine high pressure and find the nodes. I found two nodes around 40.8 and 41.7. I didn't get any velocity that first day due to weather. Went out again this past weekend and had a chance to shoot a few strings with a fellow shooters magneto speed:

40.8 (5 shots)
max = 2769, min = 2751, avg 2756, sd 7.5

41.9 (5 shots)
max = 2835, min = 2821, avg 2830, sd 6,2

42.1 (5 shots)
max = 2844, min = 2816, avg 2829, sd 13.3

G'day everyone
I have picked up a Tikka in .260 which I want to evolve into an F-open rig. I currently shoot Target rifle but this will be my first foray into scoped long range shooting.

This thread is invaluable for ideas and direction in load development so thanks to all who have contributed.

I have begun with loading (initial rough load for fire forming and barrel run in). Will be developing formal loads shortly. Results below:

130gn VLD bergers with
40gn of ADI2209...equivalent of H4350
Lapua brass
CCI200 primers
2.800-2.804 OAL

One of my go-to loads for the .260 AI -

Hornady 140 gr. BTHP Match, .010 off the lands
43.7 gr. RL-17
Fire formed IMI 7.62x51 brass
CCI #34 Primer

Avg. velocity out of my 26" 1:8 twist barrel is 2,945. The load has very little vertical spread and it shoots where I hold.

I agree that RL-17 is in the .260's wheelhouse. It delivers outstanding velocity at sane pressures.

Berger 140vld Hunting
43gr H4350
Lapua Brass
BR2 Primer
.02 off the lands
2890fps

26" bartlein 1:8 twist
47.3 grns R-23 147 eld match .025 off 26 inch krieger barrel. 2930fps
Group size 1000 yards 3-5 inch average.

20170202_120415.jpg 20170202_114334.jpg I have had great success with lapua and necked down 308 winchester/winchester brass out of my 8.5 30" brux barrels (7 barrels). Not sure on reamer spec but it was a ptg 260 reminton match reamer. .0125 neck thickness .002 neck tension with 47.2 grains H4831sc and cci 200 or cci BR2 primers. I have shot 140-142 class bullets Amax, jlk, Sierra, berger vld and hybrids, and lapua 139 scenars and all have shot exceptionally well. my best loads were with jlk and hybrids. Jlk .015 off lands and hybrids .030 off. Rifle is a savage target action in a CSR F class stock 30" 1.250 straight with 12x42 BR nightforce built by the late Center shot rifles. I've tested load after load with H4350 and H4831Sc and what I've found is H4350 has more nodes and wider nodes but it doesn't shoot as tight in my barrels as H4831sc does. H4831sc has less nodes and the nodes aren't as forgiving but the vertical is extremely tight. I will try and post some pics of what I've done. The pictures with the pencils is at my 600 yard target but it is actually 662 yards I have a shooting shack at 600 but shot these groups out of my house window off a bench and I gain 62 yards from the house. The target with orange with 2 5 shot groups is at 420 yards is 47.2 H4831sc lapua brass and 140 hybrids the low shot in the orange was me and I called it, over pressured that shot. The pics with the pencils is best powder charges and group testing after ladder tests had been done. No wind flags and holding dead on my aiming point. I haven't chronographed these loads because I don't trust the numbers from chrony, I've matched it with actual drops in my ballistic app and came up with 2,920 fps for 47,2 H4831sc. Sorry for the upside down picture. I don't know how to flip it but it gets my point accross.20170202_115132.jpg
