260 Rem loads, lets see them!

DPMS 260 25inch barrel (yes it is cut down with a muzzle brake)
Win 7/08 brass resized flash hole deburred
CCI LR
140g Nosler Match
43g H4350

yes it is over the max charge but very accurate with zero pressure signs.
I had another very accurate node at 41.5g

These are all loaded to max mag length using C Products mags. These mags allow a slightly longer overall length.
another FYI the nolser 140g match bullet is the short one of the 140g 6.5 as far as I can tell. the Hornady Amax and the Sierra SMK and the JLK bullets are longer overall.
Enjoy!

140 gr Hornady bthp, using 36.5 gr varget, CCI LR BR primers and Hornady brass

This is a 100 yard target, OnTarget shows it at about 0.4 MOA. Not bad for a varmit contour factory barrel.

I shoot a 30 " krieger barrelled .260 with 130 gr, Berger hunting bullets Loaded to an OAL of 2.99"
45 gr. of RL 17 and Rem. brass and CCI 200 primers, this is a long action REM. 700 ,built strickly to kill antelope where ever the are standing. Velocity is 3120 fps. no pressure signs and devasting results on the poor antelope. Have shot a few groups at 500 yds. of a bipod in the 2.5-3.0 inch. range. one time just playing i shot a 3 shot group @ 1k on a steel target you could cover with your hand. Luck or not the load shots. Reloader 17 was made with the .260 in mind I believe.

I have an accuracy international rebarreled in .260 with a 31inch border 5R barrel, it has now fired in excess of 2500 rounds, off a bench I have many times put 4 shots through the same hole and normally the last shot about 1mm away, my load is 43-43.5 grs of Acc 4350 + 139gr lapua scenars OAL 2900, I'm not looking for another load, or another cartridge, I also have a 6.5x55 30inch barrel, and a 6.5x47 lapua 30inch barrel, but neither of these can shoot as accuratly as the 260, this gun once shot a 1inch group at 600yds, but unfortunatly it wasn't me that shot the group it was a younger guy who was only in his fifties, this gun has a tight neck 290 thou, so I have to make the loaded round .288 thou neck size I'm not sure if this contributes to the accuracy, some people say yes, I'm not sure. dooley

140 GR. A-MAX
308 Lapua brass
47grs. IMR 7828ssc
Wolf primer 2780fps
Rem 700 with a 26 inch pac-nor barrel. I have shot in matches from 40 to 85 degrees and this load is very stable and shoots sub 1/2 moa.

My varmint load is a 120gr Nosler Ball. tip over 46.3gr of RL-19, seated .018" off lands. If i remember correctly the MV is right around 3040fps(dont have my book in front of me). COL is 2.875".

Gun is a Savage target action and a 28" Brux barrel with a brake. It'll shoot 1/2" or less @ 100 all day long. I use it also as a long range prarie dog gun and have gotten them out past 800 yards. Hope to break the 1k mark this summer.

This group was shot from a crappy old Turkish Mauser I built myself with a cheapo 24" pre-short chambered Adams & Bennett barrel, Timney Trigger, and bottom of the barrel 3-9X Tasco Pronghorn scope.

I used IMR 4895 powder, Remington brass, Fed GM215M primers, and 120gr Sierra MatchKing's moving about 3000 fps.

Goes to show just how forgiving the 260 really is. If it can shoot sub 1/2 MOA at 100 yards (even though it's only a 3 shot group) in a ratty old re-vitalized Turkish Mauser with un-prepped Rem brass, A precision target weapon in 260 could be quite a competitor.

Have any of you 260 shooters had problems with primer cratering and piercing, mu accuracy international did this most of the time until I had the firing pin hole bushed to 60 thou and the firing pin reduced to 58 thou, the problem was then solved, I had my Rem 700 rebarreled to 6.5x47 and never had this problem even though the 6.5x47 runs at higher pressures, both of these rifles were formally 308s, with the A/I I had a new firing pin and sring fitted and changed to CCI primers but still had the problem until it was bushed, I can't understand why I never had this problem with the rebarreled Rem in 6.5x47
the only thing I have done different is to use CCI450 Primers with the Rem, maybe the small rifle primers are less prone to cratering than the large rifle primers, However the 260 will remain my favourite caliber followed by the 6.5x55. dooley

Like to know if anyone is loading differently for their gas gun loads?
Thanks

Sure ought to be!

IMR 4064 is about the slowest powder advised for M1a or AR-10 chambered for .308win. Would stay with the guideline powders for service rifle use in .308 and compare bolt load maximums with powder you select versus the published max for gas gun. Can extrapolate the data and see how compares to what you have published.

There are AR-10 rifles chambered in .243win, .260rem, 7mm-08 and AI'd chamber rounds. A diligent search might turn up some data. David Tubb won The Wimbledon Cup with a Knight's SR25. Pretty easy to extrapolate data though from a parent case to a neck-down/up if only neck diameter changes.

Can always call Sierra tech-line and ask for their recommendations for gas gun usage.

i was having trouble with my previously posted rl17 berger 130 load, so i stumbled across this one. maybe some others can try it.
45grn h 4831sc
130 berger
cci 250 mag primer

the primer seems to give the load decent velocity but i still have what appears to be no pressure signs.
accuracy for the 6 five shot groups i did were between .185 and .450 and velocity was ~2900fps.

the speed isn't there like the rl 17 loads, but it was for some reason rl 17 was just way too inconsistant.
(same lot of powder i was using before, but now i had es of 45-85! sd ~25) also groups were opening up to 1"+.
i borescoped the barrel and found excessive fire cracking with only about 800 rds, i can't say its from the powder but dang!! a new krieger is on the way. i wanted to use a different brand this time but i don't have enough patience for the lead times.

btw, i never loaded this gun too hot. primers never flattened nor did i have sticky bolt conditions.

of course i also loaded some of the tried and true 4350 loads mention on this thread. with good results.

Shooting TC Encore Pistol with 15in MGM barrel.

Shooting 100 gr. hornady sp over 45.5grs H414 and getting .25 groups at 100
Shooting 129gr. hornady sst over 43 grs H414 and getting less than .5 groups at 100
also having great results with the new 123gr sst hornady recently put out for the creedmoore getting less than .75 groups but still playing with load. last one was best to date using 44grs H414. less than .75 but wasn't having a good day shooting so going to try again and see if I can do better.

Just had a chance to test out my new 260rem today at distance.
R700 LA w/ Rock Creek 26" 8 twist 5r heavy varmint barrel @ 26"

- air temp ~65F w/ light 3-5mph breeze coming in at 2 o'clock

-initial scope zero at 46y indoors left one hole 5 shot groups, this was a good feeling. 15 rounds for bbl break in.

- brass virgin lapua
- cci br2
- 142gr smk's .007" off lands
- h4350

Load 1:

42gr h4350
- I shot two, three shot groups at 100 yards for scope zero. Both measured under 1/2" CTC
- At 360 yards this load gave ~ 3/4 moa of vertical and was dealing with a little side to side wind.

Load 2:

42.4 gr h4350
- This is the load, 5 shot group at 360 yards measuring 1 5/8" ctc w/ less than 1/4moa of vertical.
- 5.25moa of elevation from 100 yard zero.
- I will be testing this load in the future and hopefully use it for F class next year.
- This is defiantly my low node and matches up with many of the loads posted on the forums.

Load 3:

42.8gr h4350
- 1/2 moa of elevation
- 3/4 moa ctc
- Primers starting to crater.
- 4.75 moa of elevation

Load 4:

43.2gr h4350
- 1/2 moa of elevation w/ a little side to side coming in at 3/4moa for the group.
- primers starting to crater
- 4.75moa of elevation
- This load is looking promising, even with the slight crater on the primers. All extraction was easy.
- I did have a flier that may or may not have been me.
- I believe this is the starting area of my high node. If I can safely find a 1/4moa or better vertical load up here, I will most likely stick with this load.

Fired 4 rnds out of my 338RUM w/ some 300gr smk's for shits and giggles. 1/2moa @ 360y :o

Auto,
Not to rain on your parade, but do you realize that this thread has been dormant for more than 3 years?
