260 rem. how bout it?

I think the 8 twist will stabilize the 140 VLD in the 260.

I hear a lot of people saying that their 260 is finicky. I didn't find that at all. But, it does strongly prefer the 130 VLD that I'm shooting in the lands rather than jumped.

If accuracy was equal, I'd prefer to jump. It just didn't work out that way.

My thoughts on bullets for a .260 is 130gr bergers or 130 gr. JLKs. for hunting or whatever. My particular rifle hammers with 130gr bergers jammed pretty hard into the lands. It shoots in the 3s which aint bad for a hunting gun!!!!!!!

I'm loading the 130 VLDs as well. I had it throated to match that bullet. They are jammed.

We had to develop the load in a huge hurry. Right now, I'm slowly backing off the jam and twiddling with the charge to try to get the same accuracy with a jump or minimum jam.

It's the most accurate hunting rifle that I've ever had. Shame it's my son's....

I had my gun throated for 130 gr. bergers at a OAL of 2.97" keeps them up in the neck and out of the powder room. I also loaded some 130 gr. jlks to 3.015" and initial results have been encouraging. The jlks have a tiny bit longer sharper profile hence the longer length but out of a long 700 no worries. The bergers have been awesome on pronghorn and a pig thus far. I feel blessed that its WAY more accurate then I am.
P.S. with the 30" kreiger and a good working load of Reloder 17 Its also speedy!

I like the 260 Rem. Bought my first one in '99. Now on the third rifle, which has recently got a new barrel. See the link for the spec - http://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/gallery/member-galleries/p2948-remington-700-sa-in-260-rem.html
I've had a Wyatts Extended magazine box fitted for longer rounds.

I am a real fan of the 260 Rem. Mine is equally at home in the field (albeit heavy) as it is on the bench. With 142 Sierra Match King's it holds 0.25 MOA at 600 yards. With 120 AMAX she holds 0.4 MOA, plenty good for flipping prairie dogs. With the promulgation of Lapua brass for the past 2 years, we have a winner here. It's a no brainer to me.

I have 2 .260s.

One built with a M70 Stealth action and 8 twist 3 groove 27" Lilja heavy varmint barrel, and, one built with an 8.5 twist 24" McGowan heavy sporter barrel on a M700 long action.

Both shoot really well, and both are easy to load for. I tend to spend a good bit of time just trying different loads and components, it's pretty enjoyable with the .260

Sadly, ::) I'll build another one this year with an FNH SPR action and a Krieger 24" 8.5 twist Palma profile barrel.

And then there's the Model 7 I picked up a few months ago...... maybe another one next year.

Kind of an addictive caliber.
