257 roberts for mid range f class

whats everyone's opinion on the 257 roberts? I wish I still had one..Got my first deer with one on them long ago...Not sure if anyone even makes it any more...But got to wondering how it would do for f class...Share you good and bad thoughts with me on this...Thanks

I believe there are still manufacturers putting out a few of these for hunting, of course. I have a Ruger Ultralight I bought many years ago for hunting and absolutely love it (after resocking, bedding and new trigger). Anyway, I'd personally pass on it for any kind of target shooting, if for no other reason than the rather narrow assortment of target bullets in .25 caliber and the difficulty of finding, and of the price, for brass made by companies I would rather pass on. That is so close to 6mm Remington and .243, I'd opt for one of these other two 10-1. Then again, they wouldn't be my first choices either.

As a longtime happy hunter using a .257 Roberts, I agree with searcher. The selection of bullets suitable for target work in .257 just isn't there. We'd opt for one of the 6MMs or 6.5s for a mid range f class rifle.

Apparently you aren't familiar with Bib's Bullets. The good RG Robinett happens to hand craft laser guided 25 cal bullets ;)

Can't comment on F Class because I don't shoot it. Can comment on the 257 Roberts (Bob). My second-longest kill of a large buck ( big 8 pt) was with one of my "Bobs" at 540 yards. The 115 Berger is an excellent bullet that probably could be set up in a correct F Class rifle to use.

Just speculating.

A LONG time ago I had a .257 Roberts chambered...Douglas barrel. My first custom and why I choose the Bob, I don' t recall. I was shooting very small groups with 100 smks and h4831. A guy at the range introduce himself and soon convince me to go with him and shoot it in f class at oak ridge Tenn. Long story short...l went and shot at 600 yds, another first, and won my class! Returned a month later after fine tuning and won again, with a better score! Family matters kept me from returning, but that gun would shoot those 100 smks .

i just built a 257 Roberts, had a old real good shape Remington 30 Express that needed a different cartridge and a new barrel, so i put a 7 1/2 twist S.S. match grade Brux 25 inch barrel on this nice old rifle. have not shot it yet just got barreled action back and am re-glass bedding stock with barrel.

I had a .257Roberts A.I. a L-O-N-G time ago for varmints. The .257Roberts is a GREAT cartridge, however, it is one of the BEST cartridges to improve! With the advent of those new "BlackJack" or whatever they are, would be a very formidable Mid-Range F-Class round! Mine was SUPER accurate, with 85gr Nosler B-Tips, they were sailing at 3550 and a 100gr Hornady at 3300 for deer. These velocities were with a 26" barrel! With RL-23 I believe it would have a 117-120gr screaming out of a 30" barrel at a minimum of 3200! At 600 it would be quite the round in my humble opinion..

Well, I think it is a great all around cartridge. With the new introductions of 25 cal bullets, it could be good for X class.

No reason at all not to use it for that, plenty of great bullets are now available....
Build one on a 7 1/2 twist and use the new 131 Blackjack for a wake up call........
