.25 wildcats

My wife bought be the panda 257 weatherby complete for my birthday a couple years ago. Didn't have any info on the components. I assumed it was a 1:10 and bought a bunch of 115 bergers. I fought with it to group better than 3/4". measured the twist with a cleaning rod found it was slower. Turns out it absolutely loved 85gr Nosler ballistic tips at almost 3800fps. Whoever built it must of had long range varmint shooting in mind.

I just loaded up some of those 115 Bergers for my 257wby. I have not run them over the chrono yet but they are shooting good. I have been shooting the 100 gr Barnes ttsx and have killed several deer in the last year or two.

I bought a 25x47L reamer set up to shoot your 110gr projectile. I'm a big quarter bore fan and was thinking about a .257/.250 ackley when this came along. I like the Lapua Brass and the case design. Hopefully you don't mind a call in the near future, just like to get your opinion.

I resized 22-250 Lapua Brass for my 250 AI. Easy to resize Lapua brass for either. Agree with the earlier comment on dies though. Many good options for resizing dies on the 250AI by using S type or Wilson dies for the 22-250 AI dies, seating die is more challenging.

I rebarreled a shot out 22-250 to 250AI. I've only ran Bergers down the tube so far. It wasn't hard to find loads it liked, seemed really easy to find a recipe. Pleasure to shoot with the varmint barrel, mild.

I'm getting ready to order my 25x47L reamer, is there anything I should know before I call PTG or JGS? I'm thinking of using 100gr bullet in a 10 twist 22" barrel, will this be sufficient for deer or hogs?

Call JGS and tell them to set the reamer up for the 100 grain Ballistic tips, you'll be happy you diid..

Got my Bartlein ordered and finalizing my reamer with Manson. 257 Weatherby mag with the shoulder pushed forward slighty and changed to 35 degrees. Should have everthing by June. Ill call it 257 WDC

Many years ago, while writing for Precision Shooting magazine, I took the 6.5x68 Shuler case, blew the taper out, went to a 35-degree shoulder, and necked it to 25 caliber. The 257 Banshee. 100gr Fowlers pushing 4000fps.
Did you also write about 800-yard shots on rock chucks in Owyhee country with that cartridge?

brians356,

yes, there and the rest of Southern Idaho as far as Idaho Falls. I still do, just not as often because of gas prices.
Get what I have, a '92 Civic VX, gets 50+ mpg highway. But, it's not going very far into the outback. I have a 4x4 Toyota for that.

If anyone's interested, Bob Jourdan once sent me photocopies of all his data and notes on his 250 AI development.

brian,

the best places left all require putting my Tundra in 4-Low within 30 seconds of leaving the pavement. I haul a small tent, and flyfishing gear with me and stay a day or two.

I know there are lots of chukar along the Owyhee River, a friend used to winter hunt the Oregon stretch above Rome in January. A real slog I'm told, full-size PU w/ camper. He's too old to try it now.

And throat erosion measured every 20 Rds with appropriate seating depth adjustments made? I have the .257 Wby w/0 freebore pushing 100s at 38xx so can relate somewhat....Tom

I built a 25 45 Sharps in on an AR platform and now just await the snow melting off the range.
Wont be long now. It is to be a deer rifle 150 yards or less were I hunt. Have some ammo ready and am helping my son w/ his 6.5/223 same way as my AR. This weekend we load him a bunch of ammo.

Well guys, the first of my 25 cal wildcats is finally complete, picked it up yesterday. I started with a 25 Grendel with a 10T barrel for plinking and club matches. I'm taking it out Friday for barrel break-in and maybe a little load testing. I'll post some pics after I finish testing on Friday.

I'd like to get started working on the second one, the 25x47 Lapua soon as possible. Does anyone have a reamer they'd like to share, rent or sell?
