22GT

Would running a lighter varmint bullet like the 60-75gr range be defeating the purpose of 22gt? Im looking to get a little more speed than 223rem but also dont want to be burning a barrel like 22creed supposedly does. Id also still like to be able to feed from a magazine where something like 22BR or BRA is said to struggle. 22ARC seems interesting with a bit more capacity over 223 but the ability to shoot 60-75s in the 3000 fps range

Had Jon Beanland spin up a .22GT barrel for my hunting rig. As per usual, the chamber is perfect.

And, as expected, it shoots. These are rounds 30-35. Four of the five went into .127.” The “flyer” opened the group to .452.”

Took the same load my match gun likes, zeroed, and the next morning killed a small whitetail buck at 420 yards. 1st pic is inside view, entrance side. The next is inside view exit side and last is outside view exit side.

A little more load development produced this group out of my hunting rig.

That is pretty darn nice.

I have one of John's lathes. :)

I have chambered several now here in my shop all my customers seem to love this chambering. we shoot long range steel mostly and we like the Berger bullets. I have a great reamer if anyone thinks they would like to have one!!

If a guy wanted to shoot 73 grain Bergers and the occasional 69TMK, would the .120 be too long? JGS has a .077 that some guys are using for 60's. I wonder if it would be enough. I'm buying one either way.

I love mine, had it made to shoot 50-60 grain bullets and it does it well. Itty bitty groups. I like it well enough I’ll probably build one set up for 75-85 grain VLD types of bullets. The Alpha brass is correctly head stamped and after 13 firings with a stout load shows no signs of stopping. I’m using the GT SAC die for this rifle. I don’t know the freenbore, I seated three 55 grain bullets in the Alpha brass and sent them to JGS. Zack at ODCR did the work, if anyone wants to know the freenbore I can find the reamer print Im sure. Great cartridge!

77 Fb would work for everything except the 90s. 80 and down is good.

Put one together a month ago for a guy to shoot yotes and occasional PRS. Without looking at the print I think we did a 120 FB for heavies if he wanted. He's been shooting 62gr eldvt. He's relatively new to precision reloading, so I asked how it's shooting and his answer was "it's shooting really good". Never got a solid answer on group sizes, but by the sounds of it, it must have been shooting pretty good cause he was really happy with it.

Any idea of his velocities with that 62 gr VT ? Hornady says .395 BC and thinking a guy could tickle 3300-3350 quite easily …. Be a lazer to 600-700 yards
