22 GT cartridge

Hi there i have tried to source 6mm GT Brass and waited a considerable time, always on back order. So in the end i have opted
To go for a 8twist .22 DASHER and 77g TMK for varminting.
I live in ENGLAND thanks for all your imput .
BAT TR and PROOF are on route i hope , i will put some pics up when build gets finished . Again thanks for all interest and posts.

I have a buddy running one in PRS. He uses 88gr ELDMs in an 7.5 twist Benchmark. He gets 3060fps with I think he said 32grs of Varget.

He just bought a 6GT bushing die, sizes it down, then runs it over a .223 Sinclair mandrel to uniform the inside diameter and loads it.

I run 95s out of a 22 BR improved with a 30" tube at 3030 fps. I am having a 22 GT reamer cut because my pressure is too high and I am losing brass on the 4th or 5th firing. I want that same velocity area with less pressure and excellent accuracy, which is why I am going there. So basically this is the smallest capacity capable of doing this without pressure problems like I am having now. That's the rationale.

As for blowing bullets. The 95 SMK through a 7 twist bartlein at 3030fps and no bullet failures that I am aware of at about 1600 rounds. I am probably not getting full BC potential at distsnce but I would guess i am close.
I did read a report last week of someone losing a 95 bullet in flight sooo? I just started another 1500 rnd lot of bullets and I sure hope that is not an issue.

If you intend to run the 88 eld and 90 berger vld above 300krpm its gonna be a crapshoot on bullet failure. I would suggest people stop running the 6.5-7tw and go to a 7.5. May or may not lose some BC there but losing bullets in flight is much worse.
I run a 22 br shooting the 95s. My barrel is a .219 bore which in my OPINION is much better than a .218 bore bc of less jacket deformities which in turn could/will cause bullet blowups. In almost 1000 rds of 95s not a single lost bullet. 26 in Hawk Hill @2942

What's the rationale for this? It sounds like people are blowing up bullets even with the 22 BR, so I wonder if it will be possibly to effectively use the increased case capacity of the GT.

edit: just to be clear, I'm asking, not arguing. I'm sure there are factors I haven't considered.
My OPINION is that the blow ups are being caused by tight bores, .218. I'm running the 95s in a 22 br at 2930, no failures yet at 1000 rds fired. It's a .219 bore Hawk Hill.

As Lance noted, among folks that manufacture quality barrels the consensus seems to be that going from a 0.218" bore to a 0.219" bore will do more than almost any other single change to help prevent jacket failures in the .224" heavies. Approaches such as using slower twist rates, 5R rifling, reducing barrel length, or even switching to a bullet brand with a tougher jacket may be beneficial, but may not always solve the problem. The 0.219" bore really does seem to work.

Sorry I did not realize I have not updated. I shot a 22 GT the latter half of last season. I gave up on trying to spin the 95s hard enough to stabilize and have gone back to a milder load in a 22GT.
Presently running an 8tw Brux with .219 bore and 88ELDs at 3066fps. Bullet blow ups are gone but this is to he expected as I dumbed down every aspect. Case capacity is fine on the GT but I am not seeing stellar performance with the 88s on paper, good but not great. Its understandable.
The case has an excellent capacity for my needs but it could be filled with 22x47L or 22 Dasher just as easy.
I have quit competing in CF PRS/NRL type matches this season and moved to rimfire. Will have nothing new to report as I dont plan to shoot my 22gt in any matches this season.

FWIW - Alpha Munitions has 22 GT brass in stock as of 06/25/2021 at 9am.

I just bought 500 pieces. I will load them and fireform and send 3 to Whidden to build dies for me. Will use my 6mm Gt dies until then.

Well you must have purchased the last of it.

They may be shipping some to Ken Lin at GA Precision - I have been in contact with both of them. You might call and get on the wait list at GA Precision for it

And Holy Cow, it must have been on the alpha munitions website for less than a day

GA Precision does have 6mm GT Hornady

We have a shipment of 20k pieces off to GA Precision so call Ken and bug him about it, if you call and check in daily with him that would make my day, lol.

We are just finishing up the last of the 22 GT through our inspection process today, so we will have more on our website shortly.

Lots of 22GT brass in stock now. Alpha’s website, Blue Collar reloading, GA Precision. I wish a few dies makers made the dies but that’s not a big deal.

If you have a 22GT and have anything to add please do so, thinking about building a 22GT.
