You'll really like the 22BR. I have a custom rifle built by Mark Chanlynn of Rocky Mountain Rifle Works. It's on a Bighorn Arms single shot action with one of Mark's barrels, 1-14 twist, 24 inches. Shooting 40 VMAX at 3860 fps and getting consistent 5 shot groups of under an inch at 300 yds. This rifle and cartridge are incredibly accurate. A prairie dog's worst nightmare. So far I fired 1600 rds and it shoots like new. I had a 22-250 and will never build another, it was almost shot out by 1600 rds. The 22BR does everything it did more efficiently and more accurately. I fired from the same gun 90 gr bergers at 3015 7.7 twist with the bullet seated way below the neck shoulder and it appears to be stable. As for the 53 V-max question . 31.5 grs of vita 135 and wolf primers, Nothing else I tried come close to those results.

My next rifle that I am going to build is going to be a 22BR with the 90's. Will be putting a 7.2 twist bbl on it 30" inches long.

I look forward to hearing about that one when it comes together. I've been going the other direction (shooting .308s and dreaming of a 7RSAUM), but I can't quite shake the idea of building a 22BR, either.

Your not the only looking forward to hearing about it! I am looking forward to seeing how it will work out too! I am actually thinking about my Eliseo Remington 223 to fund it a lil, well I would sell it and buy another Barnard action. I am done with using anything else.

How do you like the Chanlynn Barrels? I have had just about everyone elses tubes except Mark's. Maybe Ill try to contact him for a new tube. I bet if your a former AMU International Shooter you get a discount??? Or from Kansas?

I have one put together on a bighorn and in a 5R Tube gun but have never shot it. It has a 8 Twist Shilen 26"..... Just too many things in the fire... Maybe next summer.
I aught to just give it to you to play with for a spell.

how much sweeter can it get? reloaded the same cases that shot the .088 group on sunday and used 32 gr vv 540 seated .020 thou into lands, 64 bergers. shot off harris bipod and sandbag and printed a .065 three shot group! read somewhere to cull cases that shoot small groups since they have some kind of magic . loaded rounds had zero runout, so these cases are "perfect". i'll keep culling those that make one hole and see how they do in the future. can't figure out how to post photos...yet.

Thanks for all your comments. It seems like I will definately build one after reading them, but I have to do some serious thinking about bullet weight and twist rate.

I will have Bob White (Shooters Corner from NJ) build it. He has made 4 different rifles for me and they are all shooters. If this 22BR shoots anything like the 6BR he made, I will be extremely happy. I never thought a rifle could possibly be that accurate. I don't think anyone would believe me if I shared my group sizes.

The Chanlynn Barrels are outstanding. I've shot over a dozen of his barrels in competition and on various varmint rifles. Never a disappointment. Besides, Mark is a great guy and good to work with. Oh by the way, don't shoot all the pheasants in ND, leave some for the rest of us!

Guys im in the process of purchasing a barrel to build a 22br. My question is should i have it chambered to the blue or gold box lapua?? I have enough gold box to toast a barrel so brass availability is not my concern. I want a 100,200,300 yard paper puncher so what is your thoughts on the best twist for this purpose.

Hi ...I believe in either case, blue or gold box brass, you will need to turn the necks down to make the 22BR. I think a no turn neck is .252. I like to turn the necks down before downsizing to 22 from 6mm.

Well when I do get mine done, prob in the spring, I just hope that it will hold as good elevation as my 223 does!
