.22br barrel length

I'm looking at having a .22br built but need to know how many fps I will lose if I go for a 24" barrel instead of a 26" barrel,The gun will be used for varmint hunting so I would like to it to be as flat shooting as possible with 50gr bullets but also handy to carry,I'm going for a standard Remington varmint profile.
Also what FPS can I expect to get with say 50gr v-max with above barrel lenghts.
Any advice will be great.
Thanks

I also looked very closely at a .22BR last year to replace a 22.250. A friend suggested that I run the ballistics on a 50 grain bullet in.20 from Berger,BC .0295) and any 50 grainer in .22.

In short the .20 due to its higher ballistic co efficient is faster,3800 fps in a 26" barrel), has less drop and less drift and more energy on target at any given range up to around 600 yards. I was stunned, it is a real eye opener.

I am now building a .20BR and should have it shooting mid 2008 Bartelin permitting. The only downside at present is that we only have Bergers but Todd Kindler tells me that Sierra/ Hornady may have something at 50 grains in 20cal later this year.

I did exactly what you fellows are talking about a few months back. Starting with a shot out Rem 700 22-250 sporter barrel, I rebarreled with a Krieger chambered in 22BR.

It is 24", and I'm shooting 50 grain Berger's at 3600 fps. I'm about two grains under max in this rifle, which yields ~3800 fps. The 3600 fps load is quite accurate, and the rifle is my primary "yote rig.

To be honest though, I came upon this load so quickly, that I really didn't do much other testing, it shoots that well.

I'm a big fan of the .20's as well, but as you mentioned, the limited bullet selection above 40 grains, especially a good 'yote bullet kept me from going that route.

I did just finish a 20PPC for my wife, but it will be used on pdogs.
