90gr 22br ?

I'm thinking hard about having a 22BR barrel set up as a trainer for my .308 ftr gun. I can find a couple of spots close by where I can shoot at distance, but local laws require .224 or smaller. I have a1-7" tube sitting here looking for a project, so I'm thinking chamber it for 22BR. Rifle is built on a Panda fclass, so switching tubes is about as easy as it gets.

You want a trainer for your F/TR gun.. get a 22 set up and shoot it the way you do your 308.. shoot it at 200 yards.. use only led standard velocity ammo..

I did quite a bit of shooting with 90gb bullets in 22BR and 22BRX. The 7" works fine for the 90gn Sierras and Bergers. In the barrels I used, the VLDs liked about .010" jam and Sierras about .010" jump. Accuracy wise, my highest 500m score so far has been with this combination for 19Xs out of 20. I used the 22BRX out to 1200yds at a match rifle comp and did fairly well with the 90gn Bergers holding a very good waterline, but I did lose more in the wind than the top 2 shooters using 7mm magnums.
I settled on N550 and H4350 powders in both 22BR and BRX. N540/Varget type powders were better suited to much lighter bullets. One side effect of stiff loads of N550 and H4350 was throat erosion which after a while got pretty rough, causing bullets to spin apart on the way to the target. Then again the 22BRX was my only F class gun back then and got used for everything.
I have plenty of 90gn bullets left, so will be building a 223 to burn them all up.

Rod, do you recall how much freebore your 22 br had? I'm trying to spec a reamer for the 90 berger

Greg, you know these 90VLDs don't shoot for diddly. Quite giving people this bad info and leave them alone to shoot other stuff.

I cant remember what the freebore was, I will see if I have the reamer with the freebore written on it but I suspect it will be at my gunsmith.
