22BR or 22/250AI

I have a 224 cal 7twist barrel coming to me and want to do something different than the typical 223 and 22/250. My gunsmith has both the 22BR and 22/250AI reamers and want some input as to which one is better and why. Any help would be appreciated.

In my opinion, the 22BR or 22BRX is the way to go. The efficeincy of the BR case is down right amazing. I shoot 22 and 6BRX rifles and would never go back. Lapua brass is expensive but it lasts forever with proper sizing. Varget powder seems to be tailor made for BR case capacity. It will probably shoot anything you put over it with good to great velocity. I have shot 22-250 and 22-250 Improved and liked them but love the BR stuff. Like I said, just my opinion.

I'll add my thoughts to the pile of answers on the way..
I have both 22/250 AI's and 22br's, and the 22BRs out shoot's the 22/250's..
Less wear and tear, less powder, less recoil, more accuracy--
Whats not to like..
Now that Lapua has 22/250 brass that will be a help, but I doubt it will out shoot the 22BR brass......

I to have a 22br, 22-250AI and a 22 dasher. I will probably never have another 22-250AI. My 250 and dasher both like to shoot at about the same speed only the dasher uses 25% less powder and is a little more accurate. Fast twist I would go with a dasher or a brx. my standard 22 br is a 14 twist so i cant really say about it and the heavy bullets. but it sure drives tacks with 52s

I have to agree with my twin preacher'
My friend bob was wanting a rebarrel on his 700.
He was thinking 22/250 again. I told him he might like the 22BR.
After he shot it the first time he said he would never go back to the 22/250.
He went with a 12 twist hart barrel

My rifles are used for high volume shooting in the dog towns. I got rid of my 22-250's because they just over heated to quickly. After only ten shots they always were to hot and seemed to take longer to cool the anything else. I wouldn't be without a 22br it's one of the best high volume rounds you'll ever shoot.

Better for what? Depends on what you plan to do with it. Target shooting is one thing, varmint shooting is something else. I don't shoot paper targets, only varmints, and wouldn't even consider a 7 twist in either of those cartridges. The difference between a 22BR and a 22-250AI shooting 50gr bullets is about 300fps and 7-10gr powder. I have 2 beautiful and accurate 22BR's. The 22-250AI shoots noticeably flatter and hits harder. For rockchucks it just works better. For prairie dogs the 22BR is real effective and will let you shoot longer between cooldowns and cleaning. It's all about how you'll be using it. Personally I'd go with a 6BR and shoot 55/58's as fast as the 22BR and 22/250 shoot 50's.

I`d go with the 22BR or the 22Dasher if you want/need more velocity.

Better yet..........do both. ;D

Well I think I have decided to go with the 22 BR. It is gonna be built on a Savage LRPV-DBM action. It was originally a 6BR and feed flawlessly so I am hoping it will feed the 22BR flawlessly. Thanks for all the input.

One hunting partner shoots a Savage 12 action with 20BR barrel. Surprisingly, that cartridge works fine through the magazine. The 22BR should also work.
