I am thinking i will build a 22-250AI but after doing a bit of reading the 22BR sounds kinda good as well. How do these two chamberings stack up against each other? I am wanting to shoot 55gr bullets and 75gr bullets. Just looking for some thoughts. Thanks Lee

I would be getting a 22BR with an 8 twist barrel. The regular 22BR should be about regular 22-250 velocities with less powder, but if you want extra oomph, then chamber to BRX which is basically the 22BR reamer run in slightly deeper. Cant remember how much possibly 0.100'. You will get 22-250AI velocity- possibly closer to 243 velocity with less powder and it should be easier on your barrel.
I shoot 69gr nosler CC's in mine at 3364fps with 31.8gr of varget, CCI BR4's and fireformed lapua brass. Its no real pain fireforming brass, just neck down the 6BR brass to the point where you can chamber a round so it headspaces off the false shoulder. Shoot a mid range regular 22BR load and it will fireform nicely. I just necksize after that with a standard 22BR neck die.
My best group so far was under 0.2' at 100 metres.

I have a Savage LRPV that is chambered in 22-250AI and a Tikka Master Sporter that was rebarreled at one point with a straight taper Krieger in 22BR. Both are 1/9. Both shoot 75gr Amax and 69gr Nosler CC well with the BR being slightly better with the 69s vs. the 75s. Of the two, I like the 22-250AI but I love the 22BR. If the brass weren't so expensive I don't think that I would have any 223s or 22-250s. It may also be that I think that the Master Sporter stock is one of the most comfortable made so I like the gun in general more.

I have 4 different barrels chambered in .22-250 A.I.; different rates of twist, different barrel makers. Two of the barrels have been shot quite a bit, two are brand new. Knowing what I know now and having two different barrels in 6mm BR, I would definitely go with a 22 BR. Why?

.22-250 performance and good barrel life. I love my Ackley's but they will eat up a barrel.

I have a .22 br that with a 26' HV Taper Shilen barrel that astounds with 40 gr noslers,4100 with no pressure signs and suprising accuracy,no load development, and easily 1/2 inch 5 shot groups). The twist is 1-14 for 50-55 gr bullets, and the accuracy with them is astounding)!
Dan Dowling did the barrel work, and the reamer he used was set up for a no-neck turn, minimal trim. All you do is neck-size Lapua 6mm BR brass, mild trim to square the neck, and load and go. Would I do it again? In a heart-beat.
I also have a 243AI that was again put together by Dan with a 1-12' twist 26' Hart barrel. Fireform loads with 70 gr TNTs run about 3600 fps with no problems, and with 55 gr Noslers I recall reaching over 4200 fps, but the accuracy was awful. 70 grain Blitzkings in formed ackely brass runs around 3740 with better than 1/2' accuracy.
I only mention the .243AI because of the bullet weight that you mention.
Between the two, I must admit that the .22BR is a lot less fuss, and certainly an astounding performer. If I had to choose 1 of the 2, I would go for the 22BR. Better brass life, less forming, excellent barrel life...more rounds per pound...alot of good reasons, but most importantly it is a joy to shoot.

22 BR is the best.:thumb: Just ran the 'first' 20 rounds through a new barrel that 'Preacher' chambered for me. Full length size a 6 BR case to get the necks down from 6 to 22, load and go. The fun part will be the load workup.
Thanks for all the response! The one reason that i was thinking 22-250AI is because of all the brass i have on hand. I guess i could always buy another 22-250 because they are everywhere. Anyway, I dont know if i mentioned it above but i have a thing for 75gr A-Max bullets. I love them!! I also what to be able to shoot prairie rats with this rifle as well. That's why i am thinking a 9 twist barrel. If i go with the BR will i have any trouble loading from a magazine? I will most likely just stick to a BDL type internal magazine, or do i have to go single shot? My new custom action is a repeater action, but i do have a single shot follower to place in the box, if needed. What about a 22BR improved? Is there such a thing? Check out the 6mmBRX on the sites main page. You can do the same with 22BR. Just run the reamer in slightly further. Like I said 69gr bullets at 3364fps and a previous varmint load 55gr bullets at 3780fps. I can drive them hotter but thats whats accurate. My gun is a howa 22-250 with the action blueprinted and a lilja 1:10 heavy stainless barrel thats 27' long. Varget is the only powder ive tried and i have no need to change...
No magazine issues that annoy me. To reload them I use forster 22BR benchrest dies with the appropriate sized spacer underneath the neck die. Once fireformed you wont have to full length size again and may only need to run it through a 308 body die if it gets tight in the chamber. Ive lost count of the number of reloads ive done but im on my original batch of brass still and its holding up fine.
