22BR for 1000yd BR

Hi all. I took off my 6.5x47 barrel on my Borden BRL gun and threaded on a Kreiger 7.7twist 24” long barrel that Jim Borden chambered for me. It’s got 0.110 freebore and a 0.254 neck. I had a bit of motivation this evening to finally post up some of my work with it so far for those who are interested.

I shot it this weekend at CRC in the 1000yd match with 27.7gns of Varget and the 90gn SMK seated 2.805 which should be around 0.007 into the lands. It was an incredibly windy day with most everyone DQing clean off the targets. I managed to keep all 5 on for one target in LG

And in heavy gun, I ran out of rounds but ended up with this:

More to follow later!

It was a pretty windy day today, but I'm pleased with the lime green group that ended up right on the target dot (grrrr! makes it harder to determine the bullet color). That itty bitty little group measures 1.074 inches. That's the second smallest I've shot at 600 yards, after the blue 27.6gn of Varget group shown above from 4/30 that measures 0.780". I'm always a bit amazed at what just a few thousandths of change in seating depth can do!

This orange 1.5" birchwood-casey shooting dot on top of a blank 3 inch black dot works very nicely at 600 yards. Good strong contrast that holds up in the mirage and a 1.5" dot isn't too big or too small to be swallowed up by the center dot on my Sightron SVSS' reticle.

Another day and working with a new lot of Varget:

It’s interesting to watch the groups spiral from 27.7 up to 28.4gns of powder. What do you guys think? I’m leaning towards retesting 28.0 to 28.3 to see how it looks.

I guess I should probably give a little context for the big ladder. Last weekend at CRC for the 1000yd BR match I shot these targets:

I see a lot of vertical that I think is from a bad tune. The wind was not kind that day, but the vertical is more than that.
