The barrel before this was the factory Remington 700 .243 barrel. It regularly shot in the .5s or slightly smaller on average. So for a factory barrel it did okay. I need to get some better powder I believe. I’ll see if there’s anyway I could score some Varget, H4895, or IMR 8208. I’ve heard good stuff about those in the BR cases.

@Jud96, I I have .48 lb of Varget in an opened jug that I will contribute to your LD testing. Perhaps we can get together before the weekend so you can test it Sat or Sun.? Let me know...

In my .22BR's if AA2015 or 8208XBR did not work there was something wrong with the rifle or shooter. Or on some days, both! Lol. Good luck!

Mine likes IMR4350 and 4064, if you stumble across those.

It may help to closely scrutinize the mouth of the case necks to see if there is any indication that the cases have grown a tad and when chambered the case mouth is crimping on the bullet in some rounds. If this is the situation, trimming a thousandths or two, re-chamfering, and deburring the case necks should bring about better consistency of the loaded rounds.

Unless I missed it, what's missing is the history and background of this load, in this rifle. Did it ever work?

Even with good bullets and an appropriate powder, most loads will be a fail. That's why we do ladder testing of charge weights and seating depth to try and determine the small percentage of loads that do work.

Selecting one of the loads that doesn't work and pressing on it to try and "fix" it is akin to trying to drive a square peg in a round hole. Let the rifle lead you to its truth.

If the load once worked, but now doesn't, is a very different question.

The three groups you showed effectively amount to a 9-shot group that, honestly, isn't very good. The first question is why do you think that load ought to be better?
